If you are not going to choose Dhoni as the captain then his selection in the all-time Test team is questionable. If his selection is based on his batting ability then I guess it is merely based on potential. He has nothing to show for this batting abilities in the Test arena. Of all the Indian wicket keeper's I have seen against spin, Sadanand Viswanath was clearly the best and Dhoni the worst. It is a shame that Vishwanath's career was cut-short. Kirmani, while not the best in any aspect of keeping or batting, was good enough to be in the top 2/3 in all aspects. He should have been picked ahead of Dhoni.

Whom would he have replaced in the line up? Let's look at some of the other contenders. Gundappa Vishwanath makes a case 100 times stronger than him. Vengsarkar and Amarnath too make much stronger cases than him. All of them averaged 42 odd in the greatest ever era of fast bowling. Even Laxman makes a much stronger case than him. That's four players who'll get preferences ahead of him. I'm a fan of Ganguly. But one needs to rationalize things and not just speak from the heart. P.S. I think the best Indian captain of all time would have to be Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Ganguly would certainly come at second though.[/QUOTE] :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: so funny Pataudi Played 40 Won 9 Lost 19 WL Ratio 0.47 Ganguly Played 49 Won 21 Lost 13 WL Ratio 1.65 WL ratio 4 times that of Pataudi :giggle::giggle: lol
