Re: Wireless Router help Rajeev do this: 1. Log into the configuration page of the router: This can be done by typing the gateway address in the address bar of your browser. you need to connect to the router with an ethernet cable and then do this: a. Start>Run b. type cmd c. type ipconfig and look for the number combination under "default gateway". it will probably be 192.168.15.1 or 198.168.100.1 d. type 198.168.15.1 or whatever the address is in the browser e. at the username and pwd prompt type "admin" for both if this is your first time. 2. Observe the page that opens, it must have a tab that says Wireless settings, select that. 3. Under wireless setttings select the tab that says, security/wireless security. 4. Under security, there must be an option called encryption. Select that and from the drop down list select WEP. 5. Under WEP select 64bit or 128bit encryption. remember while 128bit is more secure it will result in a slightly slower browsing speed. 6. Under the WEP encryption's passphrase, type in any 5 alphabet word, go for something not that easy to guess but something you are likely to recall with ease. 7. Select apply, it will automatically generate 6 sequences of alphabets and numbers. these are your hexa decimal values of your passphrase. under the key number, usually set at one, copy the corresponding passphrase sequence. i.e. if the key number is 6, copy the sixth sequence etc. 8. select save and close. now that your router is secure, you need to configure your NIC to connect to the router wirelessly. 1. open your network connections and select view network connections. 2. select wireless network connection and select "view wireless networks" 3. on the left side, select "change the order of preferred networks" 4. under prefered networks, select "add" 5. type the SSID of the wireless router. 6. under network authorization, select open. 7. under encryption select wep and deselect "the key is provided to me" 8. select the key number (this should be same as the key number under the router's configuration page). 9. type the corresponding hexadecimal passphrase. 10. select apply, ok and then close. youre done!

Re: Wireless Router help he needs to the administrator page. If he doesnt know how, the default setting is 192.168.1.1 Tell ur friend to type that in the search box. It should bring him to his router page. Since its not secured, its not going to ask him for info like Username or Password. Once you get into it, find the tab where it has all WEP key and stuff. And set it up, make sure to write down the key once its generated.
