Cricket World Cup on display as countdown begins

Dubai: The International Cricket Council’s Cricket World Cup was taken on a shark dive at Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo on Tuesday. The prestigious trophy of ICC’s flagship event was taken to the bottom of the 11-metre aquarium tank to mark 100 days to the opening ceremony of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Dubai Aquarium is described as one of the largest indoor aquariums of its kind in the world at 51m x 20m x 11m in size. It holds the Guinness World Record for “the single largest acrylic panel†at 32.88m long x 8.3m high. A 48-metre walk-through tunnel provides 270-degree views from 11 metres below the surface of the tank. With the capacity to hold 10 million litres of water, Dubai Aquarium illuminates the marvels of the ocean floor and showcases one of the most diverse collections of aquatic life worldwide. Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo says it has more than 33,000 aquatic animals representing more than 250 species. More than 400 sharks and rays live inside this tank, including the largest collection of sand tiger sharks in the world, the aquarium’s owners said. The opening ceremony of the 10th ICC Cricket World Cup will be staged in Dhaka on February 17, 2011 and two days later, co-hosts Bangladesh and India will go head to head in the tournament opener in Mirpur on February 19.
