therocky Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Recently all I have been hearing is that this is India's only chance to win the World cup since it's in the Subcontinent and the pitches are known to help spinners instead of fast bowlers. And we all know the next three world cups will not take place in the Subcontinent again so what if this world cup was in Australia or South Africa, Do you think India would have been top favorites? I really want to see us do well worldwide and not just in Indian pitches. There is a reason someone like Graeme Smith can make fun of India about making pitches suitable for spin.

SA have never won a ODI series in India. India is a better ODI side than SA.

SA and Smith have done squat to make fun of anybody. I would take Smith seriously if SA had won tourneys across the world and only floundered in India. What happened to SA in T20 wrld cup in 2007 or the last 3 world cups held in Eng, SA and Windies? Yup, they choked as usual and now Smith has the gall to make all these idiotic statements. But I would take these statements very positively - every time Smith has opened his mouth to make predictions, he has fallen flat on his face and has had to eat humble pie. Last time he opened his mouth he was questioning India's no. 1 ranking tests and we all know how it ended - SA knocked out for 120 odd and losing the Test match :haha:

Its nonsense that Asian teams can only win it in sub-continent.India won it in Eng and made it to the final in SA.Pakistan won it in Aus and made it to the final in Eng.SL were finalists in WI. ODIs are different to tests where conditions play a huge role.In ODIs top teams can win it anywhere.

Ultimate_Game Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I would like to add that most of India's biggest wins have come outside of the subcontinent... 1. World Cup win - England 2. World Championship Tourney (the one held in Aus where Shastri won the Champions of Champions award) - Australia 3. T20 Cup - South Africa Also, India reached 2003 world cup and Champions Trophy finals held in SA. And if you add the CB Series win in Australia, that's a pretty decent record outside the sub-continent.
triam Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 This particular Indian team will do far better in foreign conditions than in Indian conditions, reasons are as follow 1. Our batting line up (with the exception of Raina) can out do almost every others in pace bowler friendly conditions. 2. Our seam bowling line up becomes on par with some others (because we have decent swingers and seamers but lack of pace). 3. We do not have any spinners that are any good, that can do good unless it is a complete minefield. I actually would have preferred if this WC was in Eng or SA, we will have a better chance than in India (and I still believe we are top 2 favs for this WC in India too, chasing 320+ in knockout stages is a big effin deal for any team, and we will score 320+, 9 times out of ten).
