Canadian all-rounder Nitish Kumar becomes the youngest cricketer to play in the ICC World Cup According to reports, the Canada’s opening batsman, Nitish Kumar, is the youngest ever player to take part in the cricket World Cup at the age of 16. Nitish Kumar who is currently playing a Group A match against Zimbabwe at the Vidarbha Cricket Stadium (VCA) in Nagpur has beaten the previous record of the young Bengali player Talha Jubair, who played against West Indies at the age of 17, in 2003 Nitish Kumar started playing because of team-mate and mentor John Davison. Davison used to play club cricket along with Kumar’s father. It was at this time that Davison first took notice of Kumar’s love and passion for cricket. He suggested that Nitish learn the sport and pursue it on a professional level. This young right-handed batsman was born in May 1994 in Ontario, Canada. Kumar is known by the nicknames of Tendulkar and Ronnie. Nitish Kumar started his international cricket career in 2010 when he played against the minnow team Afghanistan in Sharjah-UAE. Nitish Kumar is now considered an important all-rounder in the Canadian cricket team. Kumar played eight matches in the Under-19 cricket World Cup in 2010. He debut as one of the youngest player to play for the first class match at the ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Kenya in August 2009. Kumar was just 15 when he became the second youngest cricketer to play in a One-Day International in February 2010. He has played a total of five ODIs with an average of 17.25. Whereas his first class average is 16.71. The last ODI played by this young cricketer was against Ireland in the Cricket Skating and Curling Club. A good performance is expected from this young cricketer in the ongoing mega tournament. Kumar did not perform well today as he was ruled out by Zimbabwe’s Raymond William Price after a single run. The Canadian team is trying hard to chase the daunting target of 298 by Zimbabwe. The performance by Kumar would be crucial and significant, assuring the team to win in the upcoming matches of the ICC World Cup 2011.
