Captain of Bhangra Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Greed is good. So we OWN the 2 main formats of this beautiful game. Why not dominate by claiming the least important one too? We have the best 20 overs league in the World, so we should utilise that in some way to benefit our national team. One no-brainer would be to draft Paul Valthaty in as our T20I opener, for example. We have the resources to surpass the Aussies before us, by ruling all 3 formats. Don't get me wrong, I'm extemely grateful for where India is now, World Champions in ODIs, and #1 in Test Cricket was beyond my wildest dreams 4-5 years ago, but there is always room for more. (Note, this is a discussion about the national side, so please don't move to the IPL section)...
Sid Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I think we will improve our T20 performances with Ashwin in our side. Our T20 side lacked some x-factor in the bowling, which he will provide. BTW T20 failures dont hurt me much

Don't forget, it was the freshness of the team in 2007 that won us the World T20, and set us on the path to 50 overs glory... I agree, T20 isn't all that, but it would just be funny to piss people off by ruling everything there is to rule in cricket...

Baad Indian Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 T20 is a very unpredictable format , I doubt if any team can hold an edge over other teams for a longer period of time .

Captain of Bhangra Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 :two_thumbs_up: Make sure we win LoL! How am I going to manage that without a sniper-rifle?!!
Ultimate_Game Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 We should only send youngsters or players on the fringes to the T20 Cup. No point in sending Dhonis, Yuvis, Gambhirs there. Who knows we might uncover a talent that way and IMO just coz we have the best T20 league doesn't mean we will dominate the format - case in point EPL in soccer :winky: Btw T20 is more a lottery than anything else and anyone can win a one-off game. T20 is akin to baseball in that a best of 5 or 7 series gives a true picture of the team and not a one off.

Agree with most of that, except the fact that La Liga is regarded by most as the World's best league, and Spain are World Champions... Sending rookies to the 2007 World T20 had a massive positive impact on our cricket. Not just their winning that tournament, but all the other successes that have followed...

La Liga may be the best league but EPL is the world's richest and most high profile league and in that sense IPL has a parallel with EPL. But as we both agree T20 is just to identify talented youngsters/players who can be earmarked for the future. Plus T20 is a game that rewards fearlessness and what better way to go than send in the youngsters who have absolutely no fear and don't have too much pressure on them. Folks like Valthaty, Uthappa, Ashwin etc. backed by Raina and one or two other seniors is the way to go.

Blueraphael Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 ummm....what exactly IS your point? Seems to me you are stating the obvious...all indian fans would like that. As for the IPL, it is being utilised, although the perfomances in it should not take precedence over those in other domestic tournaments. Anyway, its more like EPL...its there as much to provide a platform to the youngsters as it is to make money. Also, as MSD said, T20 can be a bit like lottery. There isn't much to chose from the top teams. Its nice to see us win in it too, but as long as tests and ODIs are going on good for us, its fine by me.
Silva Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 I might be wrong because I don't really follow the World T20s that closely but isn't a major reason why we failed to make the semis in the last 2 tournament because the players making it into the team based on IPL success were total flops? IPL hasn't helped our T20 team at all.
