I understand the idea behind it in that BCCI doesnt want upcoming players to aim just for the IPL as they want them to work on their One day and first class game to aim for the national team. So as to not to make IPL their end target. But take the case of players like 27 year old Srinaath aravind and 30 year old Jakati. The chances that these players will make it to the national team are very slim yet they have been a crucial part of their successful franchises. Infact these 2 have played more games than the likes of Tyagi, Widharman Saha, joginder sharma who are paid much more. I think its about time IPL makes the discretion between those who need to aim for the national side and those who cannot and thus make the latter earn a good living in the IPL. Luckily the 3 main players for CSK, Murali, Badri and Ashwin, made their national debut and can earn more as opposed to 30,000$ in the last 3 years. But other unlucky domestic players earn very less when they are worth more. Maybe they should bring a age criteria and make it so that anyone more than 25 should be automatically put in the auction.

But like i said opening auction to all players will make IPL the end game for all. I am actually for capitalism and think that players should earn as much as they can but this might decrease the drive to make it to the test team. Yes, i know i am talking like IPL haters, but i hope there is a balance.

It should be based on domestic and international criteria but also on experience and how much of an impact player the auctioned player is. Everybody should be auctioned but everyone should have the maximum price criteria so that a Tiwary would not go for 1.6 million too by just playing one match. Only the regular international players should be spared the maximum slab criteria. For example, they should decide a regular by a criteria such as at least 5 games in the last 12 months in the playing XI for India in any form of cricket.

So will Murali vijay and Badri. All 3 have been great for CSK and deserve the 500,000+ they get now.

Like if Chennai wins it today they will pick 10th next year. Delhi which was the worst this year will pick 1st and so on.

Any quality batsman would fit the criteria automatically. Even a player going through an injury phase would play 5 matches in the playing XI in a whole year as we play at least 40 matches or so all forms of cricket combined. That said I am not saying that a player who has played only 1-2 intl. matches should not have the benefits but their maximum auction price should be capped at say 700K whereas for the regular internationals it would be unlimited bidding. Similarly, my all forms of cricket criteria would also work out for Dravid, Laxman etc. who are not ODI or T20 regulars. I just contrived the idea after seeing your thread but to be frank I have also tried to find the pros and cons and I do not see any cons of the idea I just conjectured. You might say that it would remove Agarkar and Balajis from the top bracket but then they never go that level. If needed another criteria can be added where players who have played say for example 25 matches at least in the past would also be placed in the same max. 700K cap bracket as the players who played 1-2 intl. matches in the last year.

I dont mind having mini criteria but IPL cannot resolve when 2 or more franchises go for the same player ala pollard and bond in IPL 3. If 2 teams bid the maximum, the extra money will just go to BCCI, which isnt exactly ideal.
