Will Duncan Fletcher prove to be a pushover for the vested interests of the BCCI ? OK ,the signs are encouraging that he's got a Fielding coach of his own choice in place , but has Kirsten got out just in time, just before the greatest batting line-up in modern times ,enters total self dismantling mode, albeit with a very promising, but unproven cadet force, in the wings. There isn't an established superb bowling unit to take the strain . Fletcher can't do more than advise on selection , he can't vote (in fairness neither could Kirsten). Fletcher is acknowledged as a good technical developer of talent , a polishing stone . I really hope we don't have greater need of a drill to break up parochial regional or class based interests. Hopefully years of Dhoni centered success have relegated such things to the bin of history !! So, can we have some real pacers from unfashionable teams given overseas exposure ,please?! The man will probably not have another full time post after a full term in this job , so he may not need to bite his tongue ...except that he has got the false jingoism of a controversy hungry Indian press, who, as all press everywhere do,really want screaming headlines and a polemic row, rather than weighty debate. So far, seeing the post IPL" player resting" fallout, and the unadventurous selection of bowlers for the WI tour , I am not reassured that we are seeing a bright new horizon for the Test future of India. Please don't let my recent nightmare come true , that Ravi Rampaul and Devendra Bishoo , along with Chanderpaul , take the team from their antecedents homeland for a nasty reminder that some teams know which are the best Asian descent players to put in the side, whilst others ridiculously don't!! If Kirsten gets involved in the Proteas set up our recent inner workings lie exposed If Duncan runs tactically ashore , finding that the England theme has long moved on from 2005 to a more florid recent past ,we may be in the worst of both worlds! Brilliant skills coach, but tactically a little passe , I hope Dhoni's influence takes up the vacuum of power that a quiet dignified Fletcher will be boxed into by circumstance . Still nothing succeeds like success,so here's hoping for Ishant the destroyer to join Zak and the Turbanator in a long Indian summer party through the Caribbean and into the glorious autumn of England before the trip to OZ.
