that may be true for ODIs/T20 but in Tests I think teams may still prefer a player who is predominantly a WK and can bat a bit. I agree with The Outsider that Dhoni's main job is keeping wickets and he is definitely an average keeper. In fact if some of our other keepers can improve their batting just a bit then they can surely challenge Dhoni for a place in the Test team.

till Gilly arrived at scene..everything changed afterwards evrey team now wants their keepr like him [exception may be Prasanna Jayawardena] or else i dont see a pure WK Dhoni [better bat] Prior [better bat] Akmal [do we need to discuss ] Mccullum [better bat] Haddin [useless bat i know..still not great keeper either] Boucher [agreed a better keepr than bat..but then SA dont have good alternatives] Musfiqur [better bat than keeper..not sure though..atleast make lot of sounds] Ramdin [useless in either department] Brendon Taylor [again better bat] Prasanna [one exception]
