deepak_sach Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh are players who can hook or pull the short ball very well......But they do not have a solid defensive technique then why are they encouraged to leave the ball in test cricket and not go ahead with the pull shot....I agree that Raina is bad in playing the pull shot.... But not these two [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdxpEojdJas[/ame] At 6 secs and 17 secs he played the pull shots very well.
Jayaram_IND Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Its not just about playing the pull shot you must also be able to defend against short stuuf for long periods so yes they need to improve defensively. It is nice though to see that they do have the technique to play the pull as they both have relatively high bat lifts.
Septimius Severus Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Suspect defense = struggling test player kthxbhai Scooby Doo
Jayaram_IND Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Intersting point i would like to make is in theory players with high bat lifts must cope better with the short ball but that doesnt always happen.
Jayaram_IND Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Would lke to make a quick point here regarding technique.A higher batlift may help play the short ball better .Have posted in the thread on Raina on how Ganguly altered his technique to play the short ball better. Also feel virat gets too much chest on while playing the short stuff so if the ball gets big on you its difficult to defend.Better option is to leave the ball .Am searching for links will post if i can find something. Here is one [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-ShXiN1LwU]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-ShXiN1LwU[/ame] Notice wickets of both mukund and kohli.
