Their age is hardly a deterrent; music maestros, Jagjit Singh and Ghulam Ali say in unison when you ask them about how they manage to keep an audience rapt all through a performance, even now. Ÿith the huge gamut of experience that we both have in live concerts, every performance is exciting and at the same time a sail through. Gone are the days when we used to have cold feet in the name of a live audience. Playback singing is anyday easier. But concerts bring out the best in both of us, Jagjit Singh tells you adding that they are both very excited about performing together in front of a packed crowd in Delhi on Saturday. Music lovers in the Capital were treated to some of the best classics by Ghulam Ali and Jagjit Singh. ŧrom the past 50 years I have been hearing mesmerising ghazals from Jagjitji. He is a true legend. His voice is as sweet as the nightingale. Even at the age of 70, he is very popular among the youth. He presents himself in his unique way with his own creativity in presentation, Ghulam Ali tells you. What makes this duo even more special is that both these veterans have a mutual admiration. Born almost in the same era, Ghulam Ali and Jagjit Singh are names to reckon with when you talk about light classical today. Ŧven after partition, what connects the people is the music. I visit India often and it feels like I am coming home. Jagjitji and I have lots of good memories. Whenever I used to come to India, I would make it a point to visit his home and we would share notes about our lives and the music, Pakistani legend recalls about his visits to India. When it comes to their music, these veterans donÃÕ feel threatened by each other. Although both of them perform in the same genre, they have a very distinct style which makes them different. Ū have learnt a lot from Ghulamji and I hope he keeps entertaining us for many more years. He is a brilliant performer. It is unfair that media sometimes in order to get their scoop, fuels rumours that two performers are having problems in adjusting with each other. It is just the opposite, we are very happy in each otherÃÔ company, Jagjit Singh concludes.
