Posted: Fri Aug 14 2009, 03:41 hrs When starry-eyed Agra teenager Pawan Sharma took the train from Delhi all the way to Kolkata, little did he realise that his dream of getting up-close with Sourav Ganguly would not only come true, but would turn into a story worth remembering years down the line. Nineteen-year-old Pawan is a budding fast bowler who is a die-hard fan of Ganguly. So much so that after being spotted as a raw pace talent in a local roadshow in Agra, he took the plunge of his life. With just a few thousand rupees with him, and no one for company, Pawan took the long train ride to Howrah last Thursday, and straightaway, headed for GangulyÃÔ residence in south KolkataÃÔ Behala locality the day after. After a two-hour gruelling session, the young Agra lad left everyone at the camp impressed with his raw pace and ability to constantly put KKRÃÔ established domestic batsmen in discomfort. The lanky Pawan, a Class IX drop-out, is a die-hard fan of Ganguly and emulates Pakistani pace ace Shoaib Akhtar. After todayÃÔ golden opportunity, no wonder he sounded thrilled. Ganguly, who is tipped to play a major role in the Knight Riders campaign in the third edition of the IPL next year summer, is overseeing the ongoing pre-season camp at Eden Gardens. The five-day camp, which began on Monday, is focusing on fitness and strength assessment, with a few sessions of net practice in between.
