High Profile Test Series that turned out to be a damp squib

This Aus-India series had a huge anticipation. India was the only team who stood up to the great Aus side of 2000s. But by the look of it this series is heading towards a non contest. This made me think about some high profile test series in the past that turned out to be one sided routes or boring run sprees. Pak v Ind 1989. India toured Pakistan at a time when tension was high because of Kashmir issue. With likes of Waqar and Sachin making their highly anticipated debut much was expected but this was a boring series with batsmen piling up the runs. Likes of Manjrekar and Shoaib Muhammed hit double tons and all four games were drawn. WI v Pak 1993. This was built up as huge series with top fast bowlers on the show. Much was expected from Pak after a heroic performance there in 1988. We were coming off a series win in Eng. Ws were at their peak. We bowled out a strong Windies batting for lowly 127 on the first day but our batting crumbled and we lost the series 2-0. Aus v Pak 1999. There was a huge build up for this series. We were coming off a successful tour of Ind and Asian test championship. We had a quality bowling attack with Ws, Akhtar and Saqlain. We were very close to winning in hobart(Aus chasing 370 were 140/5) when Gilli announced himself on world stage with a classy hundred. We ended up getting humiliated 3-0. SA v Aus 2008. After beating Aus in Aus that season much was expected off Saffers at home. But young guns like Hughes and Johnson made sure that it was a one sided win for Aus. Eng v Ind 2011. This was probably the biggest shock of all. #1 test team got humiliated 4-0 by the hosts. You can add yours here.

That series result wasn't a surprise. It came when we were in a transition and Tendulkar had mentioned he will be a caretaker captain only for the series. That was the series after which we installed Ganguly as the captain and India turned the corner. That time was probably the ebb for India.
