Ultimate_Game Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 The ongoing Eng-Pak series has shown how important the DRS is to a spin based attack. So many decisions were overturned by DRS and it was amazing to see DRS rule in favor of bowlers when umpires would never have ruled in the bowler's favor ever. By default umpires give the benefit of doubt to batsmen as soon as batsmen try to play on the front foot but DRS has shown that being on the front-foot doesn't mean the batsman is not out. It's amazing that the same umpires would give the batsmen LBW to faster bowlers for similar kind of shot but are hesitant to rule in favor of spinners. Maybe it's coz they don't get that much exposure to umpire against spinners and are thus hesitant. Anyways with India relying so much on spinners, especially when Eng and Aus tour India it would work against India not to have DRS in place and I hope BCCI sees the light, else we may struggle to force the wins against Aus and Eng even at home.
Utalk Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Yes I think DRS will give sub cont sides an advantage playing at home. BCCI need to rethink their stance. Efforts should be made to improve DRS. Umpires call bs should end. If more then half of the ball is hitting the stumps or is hitting in line of impact it should be out. Clipping the outer half of stump should never be out,

Clipping the outer half of stump should never be out' date='[/quote'] IMO DRS favors spinners a lot, and in effect sub-continental teams. Earlier visiting teams could simply play with their pads (case in point Jimmy "Pad"ams) and the umpires would be reluctant to give the batsmen out as long as the batsmen were on front foot even though they were hit adjacent to the stumps. DRS emboldens to give more decisions in favor of spinners and the bowling team can go for the review as well for LBWs.
