Sarkar Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Not for us. We will always remember his heroics :two_thumbs_up: :haha:
Ultimate_Game Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Dhoni < Misbah :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Sure he is for Pakis. After all Kitply Cup & Sharjah matches are bigger than World Cup :cantstop:
Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Those can be treated as exceptions, also not fair to include T20s in this comparison... Probably you missed that but they were showing very much relevant stat in last Ind-SL match, highest ODI batting averages while successful run chase and you know what, from all current players after Dhoni with 100 + avg and some aus player it was Misbah at No.3 with 85+ avg :) it rather proves Dhoni and Misbah both are great finisher... Chasing is one matter but Misbah chokes badly when the situation is tight. He has done that quite a lot in the past. Mostly against India.

Not really no. The point I was makin was that in shorter format, be it T20 or odis, who holds the nerve and who throws it away. Dhoni, no matter what the format (odi or T20), once he gets into a winning position wins the game whereas Misbah throws it away once he gets into the box seat.
Ultimate_Game Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Dhoni is to ODI's what Misbah is to Tests. Well not exactly but you get the drift Dhoni is the best finisher in business and along with Bevan best ever at the business end while chasing. Misbah hasn't done much other than win Tests at home which Dhoni has already done - beating Eng & Aus at home and reaching the no. 1 spot.

Get your facts straight.

So the UAE matches are "away" games :hysterical: Maybe you need to get your facts straight. Eng is touring Pak at the moment and UAE is Pak's home venue. And the way Hafeez is on to bowl in the 1st hour of the test and 3 spinners in the team I doubt you are playing "away" in Aus, SA or Eng :hysterical:
Pagalpanti Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I think Misbah just doesn't have the right players around him. Imagine last match had Dhoni didn't have the likes of Irfan and Vinay around him - who hit a 6 and took single to give Dhoni strike during death overs and had players like Rehman who out of 12 balls made contact to only 1 or 2.. a finisher can hardly do much.

We had Jaddu scoring 3 off 10 and Raina scoring 9 off 21. Fact is Dhoni knows how to shepherd the chase and ensure his team ends up winning, or at least tie the game.
ganeshran Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 We also had Gambhir scoring a 90 in both innings which allowed Dhoni enough time to get settled comfortably. With Misbah more often than not, the time that he uses to get in increases the required run rate beyond reach because of the incompetence of his teammates. Dhoni is certainly a much better finisher than Misbah ( he is in the league of Bevan) but Misbah often gets slated unfairly in these chases where others were equally to be blamed as well

As I said earlier Misbah brings his team near the line but then throws it away and falls short. Somehow he doesn't have the mental toughnes to close out the deal when he has done the tough part. Of course others like Shahid "brain fart" Afridi are to be blamed but one would expect a set batsman to get 1 off 2 balls, or get 4 off 3 balls etc. I have seen him play calmly numerous times and as soon as the time comes to deliver the knock-out blow, Misbah falters. Can't be coincidence as it happens quite a lot. Gambhir IMO is one of the most underrated batsman in a chase. I would love to have Gambhir, Yuvi and Dhoni on my side while chasing.

I mentioned a couple of T20 games I saw as well in one of my earlier post above where he was on the threshold only to throw it away.
ganeshran Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I mentioned a couple of T20 games I saw as well in one of my earlier post above where he was on the threshold only to throw it away. Its unfair to combine both T20s and ODIS. I dont recall Dhoni finishing a T20I match like he does in ODIs.
Ultimate_Game Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Its unfair to combine both T20s and ODIS. I dont recall Dhoni finishing a T20I match like he does in ODIs. But the similarities remain the same... Misbah couldn't score 1 off 2, or 4 off 3 to win the games. Probably he chokes while playing against India. As for Dhoni he finishes the game even in T20 once he's in as he showed in 2nd T20I against Aus. T20 sample is quite small for Dhoni as India doesn't play too many T20Is but at IPl level he generally does the same (anyone remember his 2 6s off Irfan in the last over with 16 needed to win off 1 over?) but I don't want to include IPL stats in this thread.
Ammar1 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 We need a finisher like abdul razzak and equal replacement is hammad but our captain and coach dont understand
Ultimate_Game Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 We need a finisher like abdul razzak and equal replacement is hammad but our captain and coach dont understand IMO you need to drop a spinner and play an extra batsman as you are treating Afridi as a batsman or an all-rounder but the fact is he's nothing but a glorified slogger and should be treated as a bowler who can throw his bat around. One out of Ajmal, Afridi and Rehman should be dropped for a batsman as Hafeez is already in the team to bowl a few overs of spin and you don't need that many spinners.
