Sidhoni Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 It's soft, but that's the way we are. Viru said, when asked about the withdrawn appeal after R Ashwin "Mankaded" Thirimanne
zep1706 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 They did the right thing by withdrawing the appeal first time. But he was doing the same for next couple of overs continuously, they should have run him out then.
akshayxyz Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 @yoda. He is a dramey-baaz nevertheless. I was a bit harsh on him, in this incident - as I had not watched the video yet.
achilles Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 These illiterate and obnoxiously stupid players, who keep coming out of the nation smaller than Maharashtra have some guts. The dolt first got "angry" at Ashwin and the Indians for claiming the wicket. Then, when Shrimati Sachin Tendulkar allowed the poor guy to carry on, Thirimanne did the same thing for 2 overs! Can you beat this thick-headed junk!

Can you beat this thick-headed junk! Whose fault is it? It's ours. As a saying goes "if you allow someone to sit on your shoulder, pretty soon he will start phucking your ear". It's us who put ourselves in such situations. Thirimanne was out and we shouldn't have retracted the appeal. Also, we need to be more aware in the field. Even though we withdrew the appeal we should have kept an eye on Thirimanne and Irfan should have run him out the next over. Irfan is a left armer and was bowling left arm over so he could have done so in his delivery stride. These are the sort of cricket smarts we lack and at least Fletcher or some Indian player should have sent the message to the team in the middle that they should try to run him out again. I seriously wonder what Fletcher does in the dressing room

Umpires job is just to evaluate the appeal within the laws of the game.
yoda Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 On Ravichandran Ashwin's attempt to run out non-striker Lahiru Thirimanne for backing up too much, Sehwag said, "I think Ashwin warned him, once in the previous over and then in next over. He took the bails off and appealed, umpires discussed and asked me. I said we could give him one more warning and if he does it again, we will go for that. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournaments/india-in-australia/top-stories/Virender-Sehwag-takes-a-dig-at-Dhoni-adds-more-confusion-to-rotation-policy/articleshow/11978964.cms How much more stupid can we get?

ganeshran Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Without warning, Mankading someone is totally unsporting and against the spirit of the game. What Ashwin should have done is warned him the first time and if he carried on then ran him out. Kapil's approach against Kirsten was the right way to do it. TBIiZBsBTOQ
Ultimate_Game Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Umpires should not have initiated that process in the first place. Umpires job is just to evaluate the appeal within the laws of the game. Even if they did how hard was it to say "we think he was out and are not withdrawing the appeal"? They didn't have the balls to even back up their own appeal? Ashwin did what he could by running him out and appealing but Shwag and Tendulkar let him and the team down by talking to umpires and withdrawing it.
gaurav92 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 We just want to play the game in the right spirit never mind others abusing it. But this attitude has to change if we are to rule the game and stay on top. Ruthlessness should come from within, and no mercy attitude should be the way to go on the field.

Last year the rule was specifically added, after it was taken out sometime back. The rule clearly stated that if a batsman backs up too much he could be run out by the bowler without any warning. The warning part and spirit of cricket thing was ok in an earlier era before the advent of odis and T20s where quick singles or twos were unlikely to make a difference. Not anymore as a few runs can make a difference in shorter formats. Thirimanne should have known the rules, especially since it was re-introduced last year and we should not have withdrawn the appeal.

Ruthlessness should come from within' date=' and no mercy attitude should be the way to go on the field.[/quote'] +++ I would rather people b***h and moan about us while we are winning than play the "good loser" part. This is professional sports we are talking about where SL have done the following in recent times :- 1. Dilshan forced his bowler to bowl a no-ball to deny Sehwag a century. 2. Sanga famously cheated at the toss in the world cup. He said tails and then backed off when he found out the ref didn't hear his call. And we are being magnanimous to these guys??? :omg:
Magneto Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I don't think we would have been on this 'win any way possible, what the feck is the spirit of cricket' route, had we not been so miserably pounded by any and every team in the last few months. Desperate times call for desperate measures. It was fair to warn Tiramisu the first time, but he should have been Mankaded on the 2nd occasion. I blame DE for not Mankading Tiramisu.
ganeshran Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Dude' date=' he did warn him according to Sehwag. See the quote above that I posted.[/quote'] Where does it say that he was warned before he was run out.

ganeshran Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 ^ If he was warned before, then we shouldnt have withdrawn the appeal. But Im pretty sure if an Indian player was at the receiving end of such a dismissal, the reaction would have been very different.
