Alastair Cook bites his tongue By Simon Briggs Last Updated: 1:33am BST 28/07/2007 Alastair Cook tried hard to disguise his frustration last night after receiving his third dicey lbw decision in a row - and his fifth in the last eight innings. Cook must also know that anyone who explicitly criticises an umpire's decision is liable to be fined. So when a reporter asked him about his series of dubious lbws, he replied: "Perhaps Hawk-Eye would seem to suggest that a few of them in the series have been, but then that's cricket. "You go through these runs of getting slightly unlucky decisions, but then you have days when you get the decisions too." Cook is particularly unlucky in that his executioner yesterday was Simon Taufel, the best umpire in the world. But then, when Sourav Ganguly sneaked an inswinger past his bat, the naked eye suggested that he was bang to rights. Hawk-Eye saw it differently, claiming that the ball would have passed above the bails. Perhaps the fact that Cook was batting several feet outside his crease should have saved him. Link to comment
