Update on Hot Spot

The owner of Hot Spot posts every now and then on rsc to keep us informed on what's happening with the technology. He also takes part in some of the conversations and shares with the fans whatever info can be shared without crossing legal or competitive boundaries. He has given an update on the tech today. For those interested...

Guys, Just a quick update from our side of the fence. I was very happy with the introduction of our newest hot spot cameras this summer in Australia. The new cameras are generations ahead of the older cameras and we have been able to eliminate the motion blur in the picture in order to enable much easier identification of faint hot spots. It has taken us two years to bring this improvement to the market place and I am very confident that the system is now as good as it can be. As we only have two of these new cameras the tours we ran in SA, NZ and UAE all used the older cameras and therefore the issues with faint hot spots as a result of motion blur still existed. At this stage we are unable to replace anymore of the older cameras with the new ones until the ICC and its members are able to present a viable business plan going forward for DRS. I believe we have taken all the criticism on the chin over the past 9 months and answered our critics with a very tangible improvement in Hot Spot. It is now up to the people running the game to take the next step. What we have been able to do recently is significantly improve the Snickometer product that we have worked on with its original inventor Mr Allan Plaskett over the past 13 years. The Snicko by the middle of 2012 be ready with 5 seconds of an appeal. Once again this has involved significant technology improvements in order to make the Snicko as real-time as possible. The aim is to run the hot spot and snicko back-to-back in order for it to also be added to the DRS suite of products and compliment each other. The ICC needs to approve this step at its next couple of meetings before it becomes a reality. I know that some of the opponents to the DRS on RSC will think that our improvements are trivial....all I can say is that BBG Sports has done its very best to improve its products with absolutely no guarantee of any future returns for the people who run Cricket. Agreed that's great news and would encourage all countries to use DRS since Hotspot had led to some dodgy decisions. Snicko clears any doubts just took too long to get ready previously
