Firstly I would like to clarify that the Australia vs. Bangladesh quarter final will not be shown live. I was mistaken and the England vs. South Africa game from the Tony Ireland stadium will as always be the televised fixture. However, the Australia vs. Bangladesh game is a unique occasion for Coach Stuart Law. He has just recently quit as Bangladesh coach and has followed and worked with their young players. Now he is coaching the Australians for this World Cup. In a way you could say it’s a win/win situation for him either way. Australia is favourites, but Bangladesh is one of the better U19 sides around and they have pulled above their weight in the tournament, eliminating the 2010 semi-finalists in Sri Lanka. South Africa vs. England should be a close fought game. South Africa are undefeated in the tournament, but England will be hoping to win this knock out game and progress to the final 4 which they didn’t manage in 2010 under Azeem Rafiq. Reece Topley who is one of the leading wicket takers in the tournament will be a key player and his battle with the tournament leading run scorer, De Kock who is an attacking left handed opener should be interesting viewing. England batsmen showed a reluctance to use their feet to the slower bowlers in the previous match and were rather plodding forward. Ian Chappel considered it as a lazy way of playing. Chappel also mentioned how other teams would have taken plenty of notice about this and bowled more overs of spin against England who played the spinners with limited fluency and confidence. Ben Foakes who made a 90 odd in the match against Nepal looks a dangerous batsman. Once he battled through the initial patches and played himself in, he kicked on and accelerated with some clean ball striking. Ben Duckett, the number 6 left handed batsmen, batted with innovation and inventiveness in his half century. It was a fine exhibition of modern day shots. He was expressive and unconventional. Alex Davies who opens the batting and made a 40 against Nepal looks sound at the top and favours the cut shot. He plays orthodox shots and relies on timing and balance. Daniel Bell Drummond who was highly rated looked nervous and scratchy at the crease. He was struggling to tick over the scoreboard and wasn’t able to overcome the pressure he had inserted on himself. He departed after blocking out 5 deliveries before playing a village green slog which was easily taken. In both live matches England has played, the highly regarded batsman has been far from his best. Sanjay is no longer commentating at the U19 CWC. He is heading back to Mumbai to cover the India vs. New Zealand test series.

3rd Quarter-Final: India U19 v Pakistan U19 at Townsville Thrilling Indo-Pak contest on the cards

India enjoys an overall 9-7 record against Pakistan but the green shirts have performed better in big matches, having won five of the six contests in the ICC U19 World Cups. Pakistan beat India in the semi-final of the 2004 event in Bangladesh, then in the 2006 final in Sri Lanka and overpowered India again in the quarter-final in New Zealand in 2010. In the inaugural event in 1988, Pakistan defeated India by 68 runs while IndiaÃÔ only victory in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup came in the 1998 event in Durban where it beat Pakistan by five wickets. In the ongoing event, Pakistan remained unbeaten in Group B while in Group C India suffered a shock defeat against the West Indies before it bounced back to win convincingly against Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea (PNG). Looking ahead to the match, Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who is the second leading run-getter with 182 runs, said: Ÿe played India in the Asia Cup in Malaysia before this tournament and we won one (by one run) while the other game (the final) ended in a tie. There is always a tight contest between us and we are expecting nothing different this time. Å°ur players are aware of how exciting this is for the supporters of both the teams. They know that there will be millions of fans glued to their screens seeing the action when we meet. The last time we met the games were exciting so we hope that continues. India captain Unmukt Chand, who has scored 104 runs so far, said: űakistan will be a challenge but we have worked hard on our skills coming into the tournament and also on the mental side of our game. Ÿe played Pakistan twice in Malaysia in June and learnt a lot from those matches. So, we are confident that we can perform very well not only in the quarter-final but also in the rest of the matches. Exciting contests on the cards Even as the senior England and South Africa sides battle it out for the number-one Test ranking at LordÃÔ, their U19 squads go head to head at Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville for a place in the semi-final of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012. While the side that wins at LordÃÔ will claim top honours in Tests, the winner in Townsville will take a giant step forward in its quest to win the biggest prize in the U19 age group. England last won the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in 1998 while South Africa is yet to win its first title. Also on Sunday, defending champion Australia will take on Bangladesh at Endeavour Park 2. Australia won the event in 1988, 2002 and 2010 while BangladeshÃÔ best performance has been in 2006 and 2008 when it reached the Super League quarter-finals. The winner of the Australia-Bangladesh match will lock horns with the winner of England-South Africa match in the first semi-final to be played on Tuesday at Tony Ireland Stadium. New Zealand and West Indies will figure in the fourth and final quarter-final, also on Monday, at Endeavour Park 1. Both sides have appeared in an ICC U19 Cricket World Cup final but are yet to win it. New Zealand lost the final to England in 1998 while the West Indies lost to Pakistan in the 2004 final. The winners of India-Pakistan and New Zealand-West Indies matches will play in the second semi-final at Tony Ireland Stadium on Thursday.

ICC Under-19 World Cup Q/F B'desh u-19 vs Aus u-19, Aug 19 2012 Surprised none of B'desh fans has created a match thread of the game, especially since B'desh u-19 is doing extremely well. B'desh u-19 are 77/1 after 17 overs against Aus u-19. Anything over 240 will be a pretty good score IMO.
