UAE and the whole of Middle east does not allow people outside the country to become citizens. When locals are not picking up the game why do they waste their money. The game is never going to be sustainable.

They had lots of local players in the team

And no one is going to tour these desert wastelands for ODIs or tests. Best bet is Nepal, Ireland, Uganda and re-Kenya All these teams are filled with local born and bred players and to some extent have fan following. The likes of Canada, middle east countries, USA are filled with 5th rate ringers

Pioneer Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Yeah I saw a documentary about cricket in Nepal, its really popular. I know this Nepali guy who follows Pakistan-India matches as if he's from those countries. But at the OP, its going to be really hard for the UAE to get 11 international level local players since their numbers are already quite low as compared to the expats. Plus, football is far more popular in Arab countries. However that being said, cricket should be developed everywhere, doesn't matter who plays it. It'll be a shame if the cricket structure dies out here in the desert, theres alot of people who play it enthusiastically and theres no harm in that.
