Russia restarts Cold War patrols

Russia do not want any of the US forces around them any day! Now this Patrols are a part of their disagrement even if its just a show-off. They thinks that US might withraw from their plans to install anti-missile radar in former Soviet Republics & Balkan countries. Remember, Russia is still a force to reckon with! They still have the quantitative advantage over US with regards to Nuclear tiped Missiles. My guess is that, Russian response with its Airforce is a reply to America's opinion abt Russian Airforce that it is too old and weak. Recently they installed a Russian flag under the artic sea using advanced submarines. All these deeds are pointing towards one thing - "They are back in BUSINESS".

Russian AirForce cannot attack American airforce directly but fighting over Russian space, it'll own American air force. Sure, Russian jets(Su-30 MKI/S-37/Mig-35,etc) are inferior to F-22s and F-35s but that is only because the American jets are stealth fighters. But they are superior to any US fighter in ever other aspect- range, performance and speed. Armaments are pretty equal, if not Russian advantage ( russia leads America in missile tech- it has for the last 40 years, it will for the next 10-15 years atleast). So Russia floods its airspace with Radar signals, F-22s arnt' completely invisible and now it takes 2-3 Su-30MKIs to shoot down an F-22. An F-22 costs 120 million, a Su-30 costs 30-40 million. America starts with 200-250 F-22s, Russia with 400-500 Su-30s (based on purchase tenders fulfilled/pending currently). Russian fighters win against American fighters simply due to war of attritition. But America is taking a huge gamble with the F-22s and its 'cloak' oriented approach. Their planes are inferior in aerodynamics, engine performance, weapons load & Russia has wiped out the avionics gap. The moment someone makes the next 'major' breakthrough in radar technology, F-22s will be flying coffins when facing Su-30s or MiG-35s. And with a far higher unit cost, it will be impossible for America to play the 'numbers game' like it did in the closing stages of WWII.

You still hope that Russia / US wud use these fighter jets in an unlikely event of war? My bet is on Tupolevs & Ilyushins by Russia & B-1, B-2, B-52 & F-117 by US eventhough most of the fighting is going to be done using IMRBM, SLBMS & ICBMs. Earnings from Oil & Gas business could be one of the reasons for Russians to restart the patroling which was stopped because of oil prices 15 years ago. No one can't blame Russia for opposing the installation of the US Radar stations arround it. US says it is meant for rougue countries like Iran, Korea & Syria. Once built, US will surely convert those Radar stations into Advanced ICBM tracking stations in future and this is what Russia is concerned of. Once Russia loses the upperhand in offensive MISSILES, US will not even mind them! A bi-polar world order is always better for PEACE. If US need to stop so called Rouge states from launching missiles at its allies, they can simply upgrde their existing facilities in Italy, Turky or Qatar. When normal guys like us are doubting the US behaviour one can't blame the Russian Generals! This is a crucial time in the balkans, US & EU need Russian support to stop the Serbian issue from going out of hands. So it is in the better intrest of NATO not to irritate Russia.
