metros and Tier 2 cities

Last time i look at the india A tour score card, i could still count mukund,rohit, tiwary,dhawan, rahane from the metros.only pujara and bist challenging the status quo. Mumbai has been the city to most likely to produce superstars.there is tough competition and relatively high competition from the schools to the leagues,not to mention a popualtion of 15+ million. it was no surprise to see gavaskar and tendulkar emerging fromthe ranks. In recent years their domination has been waning a bit and they have been severely challenged by delhi . sehwag, gambhir ,kohli and chand in a space of ten years is pretty exceptional. it is fair to say mumbai and delhi are most likely to come up with the super stars. Other metros have provided largely a supporting role to the batting lineup though dravid can be be the lone exception. The last big star from outside the metros could be vijay hazare from baroda but it was not a time when indian batting standards were be a force in world cricket. it took time for high standards in indian batting to emerge. prominent cities (from outside metros) like chandigarh have given a sidhu or yuvraj. pujara, if he makes it,could be the first big batting star from a tier 2 city in a very long time. there is also raina. but he has some questions around his test future, though he will get chances. the advent of pujara,dhoni and others from "other than the biggest metros" signals a milestone in indian cricket. tier 2 stars are starting to emerge albeit with difficulties in their technique. the success and reach of a system shows in stars coming from the remote places. but the advantage of those who grow up in metros is still strong. Its difficult to envisage a tendulkar emerging from a village area at the moment. thats where the next milestone is.producing stars from the villages. pls do not mention bowling ,the davangere express, the bharuch express. its also shows a pathetic situation and lack of competition.
