Mandrake Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Equally dismaying is our fixation with rankings and numbers....the country needs many many more IIT's or better institutions...instead we have created such monstrous entrance examinations where students compete for a handful of seats.....

I still remember how guilty I was made to feel when I came second in 8th standard in my school......:haha: Thanlkfully nobody bothered to ask me how I am doing once I joined engg school and that's where I enjoyed my studies most.. But then again there is another end of the spectrum whom we used to call in engg school 5-pointer crowd.. they would like to have the markign system virtually scrapped because their parents told them to join engg , but they don't like it and hence they much rather do everythinng under the sun except studying academic books... I say take middle-path
