UP farmers up in arms agaisnt Maywati's Reliance fresh ban action.. I told u this reliance fresh is a boon for farmers.. New Delhi: Things seem to be looking up slightly for Reliance retail. The company has been facing stiff opposition in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. But now there is support from unexpected quarters in the very same states. The angry protest against Reliance retail that has now forced the West Bengal government into damage control mode. Embarrassed by the attack led by coalition partner Forward Bloc, the Bengal government now says it will give blanket security cover to Reliance Retail outlets across the state - even at the risk of alienating its ally. The promised security-cover for Reliance outlets reveal that the CPI-M is still hopeful of wooing the company for large format retailing in agriculture. And it also opens up another front of sharp differences between the ruling party and its partner - Forward Bloc. The Forward Bloc is not mincing words and says the entry of large retailers in the agriculture-marketing space will be opposed tooth and nail. Forward Bloc General Secretary Debabrata Biswas said, “We are against the entry of multinational companies in the retail sector because it will be disastrous for our economy and lakhs of people will lose their jobs." A thousand kilometers away in Uttar Pradesh farmers like Ravi Singh are left staring at heaps of rotting vegetables because the Mayavati government has shut down Reliance Retail outlets. They say they want Reliance back as it gives them a better deal. Ravi Singh who is a farmer says, “We used to get good money for the vegetables we supplied but Reliance stores have closed now.†In this political tussle who is the biggest loser - Reliance which is suffering loses to the tunes of crore or the farmer who got fed up with the state-owned mandis and turn towards the private sector? The answer is difficult but one thing for sure, in this tussle it is the consumer who is the biggest sufferer.

good news.... If Reliance can provide good rates to farmers, UP government must provide all support to them. For so many years it's farmers who have been affected by this....due to lack of profitable return on their hard work and investement, many people from UP abondon kheti-bari and migrate to metros in search of work. Entry of private players is like a boon for UP farmers, it seems.
