indiaregulator Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 This has always struck me as quite odd. Graeme Swann between 2009 and 2011 was quite obviously the best spinner in the world but none of the IPL teams bought him ever. If Sir Ravi Jadeja can be fetched for 2 Million, Swann surely should be worth some value, especially given his bowling average is far lower and his T20 batting average is far higher. Then you have Ravi Bopara and Owais Shah who have been bought numerous times for the IPL despite neither of them being particularly good. Why has Steven Finn not been bought either? He's one of the few England quicks who can properly bowl in Indian pitches.
Executioner Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Swann would be of great worth compared to darters like botha. Although India is a good place for spinners, some of the IPL teams have been stupid not to include quality spinners in their armoury. RCB and KKR have a very good spin attack especially the latter. CSK had ashwin at their disposal. MI had ojha but a certain retard named Bhajji meant that ojha didnt get much chance. The fact that India is a land of trundlers but not so bad spinners, and the coaches coming from Countries with seam-friendly conditions, seamers were always the big catch. Another reason comes to mind is no Pakistani players. Ajmal, hafeez and afridi would have been useful for most teams
bajrang Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 they didn't put themselves for the auction i presume.
Rohit S. Ambani Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Sir Ravi Jadeja will be available for all games, whereas Swann plays all 3 format's for England and schedules clash. That's why Shah, Morgan and Bopara are available for most IPL games and picked. In KP's case just his association adds charisma to side and result in added revenues with ad's etc.
Tendulkar_Bhai Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Cos they are all rubbish! No england player has ever made a big impact in IPL apart from KP in the last season (having flopped previous yrs), Colly did average. Broad/Lumb/Mascaranus/Morgan = flops. Plus like Ponting they are racist/jealous of India so avoid it.
