Indian Cricket reaping profits from seeds Chappell and Dravid sow

head coach

Chappell's intentions were right, but his methods were bone-headedly brutal. He couldnt win the trust of even one player. He is a total misfit to coach adults. He should stick with coaching kids in junior academies. He may not be tesponsible for all our losses, but he needs to cop a significant amount of blame for it
yes, he was the good, the bad and the u(n)gly.

But it would be imprudent to take away the single aspect Greg emphasised on - breeding youngsters. On an aside note I also remember Chappell constantly saying that Irfan Pathan was NOT a fast bowler and should NOT be expected to bowl so. He(Pathan) was essentially a medium pace swing bowler who would get wickets with changing the pace. This is exactly what Pathan did in the 20/20 cup. xxx

Biggest mistake was going back to the geriatrics after a few ODI failures courtesy Vengcircus' date=' rather than giving the players you had backed for more than a year a chance to overcome the failures.[/quote'] The oldies returning was more of a knee-jerk reaction dictated by public sentiment in light of all the disappointments which followed after ODI series win vs England. The selectors didn't have much choice. The same youngsters who had shown so much potential failed to produce anything substantial once the team went on the road - the West Indies, Malaysia, and then of course the monumental failure at the ICCT on home soil. All of a sudden, the Indian team was being criticised from all corners and the defeat in SA was probably the last straw. Even people on this forum were calling for the axing of certain players, especially Raina, Kaif and Sehwag. Someone had to replace them, and that is exactly what happened. In hindsight, it obviously didn't do India any good and they should have continued with the same combination before the World Cup but would it really have made any difference ? I don't think the results would have been any better. Who knows what might have happened to such a demoralised team in those home series vs WI and SL, and they would have arrived in WI with tremendous pressure on them.

Good point about the youth. Though we didn't need a Chappell to spell that out really. Chappell's job was to make India do well in the World Cup and he failed miserably. Anyway, Nice to see you back :P
You are right. If Chappell and Darvid were there ,they would have made the youngsters to polish their shoes and keep them terrified with umteen number of changing batting order..May be India would have lost to everybody.
