He was certainly well regarded for his daring and unorthodox strokeplay during 1980s or part of 90s. Opposition captains including Aussies, Paks, Eng, WI used to fret over field placements for K. Srikkanth since he used to smash bowlers in unique (and ungainly) strokeplay. Much like how Greatbatch did later, and MSD sometimes does today. Sehwag is today and we have others. Not comparing Sehwag stats, but that type of brash play back then was a rarity. Explosive and Unpredictable batsman I dare say that he was Sehwag-like for his era; not in performance but in thought/demeanor.
