Guest dada_rocks Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Debate OVER the MODI MODEL from India Today… sister magazine of pro congress channel AAJ-TAK If development alone is the criterion to judge Narendra Modi, then he gets AAAA+ in his six-year rule. Many of his projects are changing the face of Gujarat. • Jyotirgram power scheme: The scheme ensures 24-hour, three-phase domestic power supply to all 18,000 Gujarat villages, spurring an economic revolution in villages and reverse migration from city to villages in many parts. • Girls’ education scheme: The main feature is that both ministers and IAS officers go to villages for three days in a year to persuade parents to send their daughters to school. It has seen the girl drop-out rate in schools sliding from 48 to three. • Beti bachao andolan: The Beti Bachao drive of the Government aimed at preventing female foeticide through a joint awareness campaign by government,NGOs and people’s representatives has seen the sex-ratio improve from 802 to 870 since 2001. • Industrial investment: The success of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investment Summits hosted by Modi received recognition from RBI recently when it pegged the investment coming to Gujarat at Rs 76,000 crore which equals the figures of Maharahtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu put together. • Highest growth rate in the country: Gujarat registered the highest growth rate of 10.6 per cent in the country during the first four years of the 10th five-year plan that ended last March as against the national figure of 7.2 per cent during the same period. • Non-populist governance based on accountability: A largely populist-free model of governance that aims at accountability. It also means few sops to people. In the power sector the government has not hesitated to slap cases on farmers indulging in power theft. This and other measures ensured that the state’s power set-up wiped out a combined loss of Rs 2,200 crore and posted a profit of Rs 200 crore last year. The government could carry out power reforms better and faster than most other states. • Good governance marked by fiscal discipline: Gujarat became a revenue surplus state from a revenue deficit state after a gap of 15 years. The revenue deficit was Rs 6,700 crore when Modi tookover in 2001. Two state PSUs Gujarat State Fertilizer Company and Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals which were running into losses turned into profit-making units. • People’s participation: The Government has tried to involve people in governance, creating a rare model of people’s participation. For example, the urban development drive to upgrade small municipal towns last year sent the tax collections soaring simply because the people were motivated to pay their taxes. Developmental works worth Rs 300 crores were also carried out with the help of private donations. When it celebrated e-governance year last year the state got a huge number of computers as donations in villages from local residents. • Petro-capital of India: State PSU Gujarat State Petrochemicals has made Gujarat the petro-capital of India by laying a 2,200 km gas grid in the state of which 1,400 kms is already complete. Huge natural gas and crude oil reserves were found in Krishna-Godavari basin. The gas grid is expected to give a major fillip to industrial production because gas is much cheaper to naptha which most industrial units had been using so far. • Achievements in agriculture sector: The state has given soil health cards to more than half of the 38 lakh farmers in the state to enable them to comprehend the quality of the soil on their farms and decide on precise crop pattern and the right fertilisers. 700 scientists from the four agricultural universities of the state have been involved in educating the farmers on crop patterns and fertilisers. This move won praise from eminent agro scientist, M.S. Swaminathan. • Unique national security model: The state has set up a unique security model based on tight vigilance and effective action due to which not a single terror attack has taken place in Gujarat in the last five years while cities like Delhi and Mumbai get hit by terrorists. kabira Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 well I am pro-BJP, but I think he has angered lot of veteran BJP leaders in Gujarat for some reason. He might lose out in Saurasthra-Kutchh without support of Keshubhai Patel. As Gujarati I hope we don't go Karnataka way. Whoever comes should come with clear majority, last thing we want is hung vidhansabha...hopefully its BJP
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 What exactly is Beef of Keshubhai against Modi.. I know the issue for public consumption is "modi is Hitlar" but wud love to know about the real issue
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 I too am worried Keshubhai Patel is too big, then there was POanchayat election just five months back and Modi made a clean sweep there. But then Keshubhai was not openly campainging against Modi then.. Sala ye aapas ke bickering khatm honi chahiye waise bhi keshubhai ke kabr mein panv latak rahe hainhe sud have done the honourable thing and retired from active politics instead of rocking the BJP boat.
kabira Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 big problem POWER....With Modi, Keshubhai does not have any power and thats what his hurting him.. Interestingly, no other veteran BJP leader has tried to persuade Keshubhai..
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Arun jaitley has visisted many times Keshubhai didn't buzz.. Honestly if someone can hurt his own temple for power then his integrity needs to be revisisted.... If BJP wins Keshubhai might get suspended from party.. Hope people see that Keshubhai is looking for power nothing else.
kabira Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 nah Arun Jaitley did not work...Advani should have done it.
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Idiots hai saale sab, Advani hi chala jata ye ego mein party ka kanwara kar denge..
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 See why development doesn;t win election postive things become negative in electroal politics The Congress has chalked out a five-pronged strategy to upstage Modi. On one hand it is trying to dent his personal image by levelling charges of corruption and portraying the Government as belonging to rich businessmen and on the other it is projecting him as anti-poor and antifarmer. It is also playing the caste card by trying to turn the numerically strong Leuva Patels and Kolis against BJP by exploiting the divisions in the Sangh Parivar and is also capitalising on the discontent of a section of Hindu saints with Modi. It is wooing government employees, especially teachers, miffed with Modi’s tough and resultoriented style of functioning. The Congress has also picked up the issue of criminal cases against nearly 1.60 lakh farmers for power theft in the last five years. It has promised to withdraw these cases if voted to power.
Lurker Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 nah Arun Jaitley did not work...Advani should have done it. You arent the only one disappointed by Arun Jaitley. He, and to an extent Arun Shourie, disappointed me greatly. The Congress has chalked out a five-pronged strategy to upstage Modi. DR, None of that is a surprise really. Politicians always use corruption, caste issues or apathy towards Govt to entice voters, nothing new if Congress does it too. However, what I definitely dont support is letting farmers, for that matter anyone, go scott-free is stealing power and getting away with it. However many states in India routinely do this, right from Punjab to Bihar. xxx

Is this acceptable by EC? If not, why is it acceptable that congress will withdraw cases...they are clearly asking vote for money. Our EC is doing j@ck$****...They either do not have much power or they are relunctant to use it.

If these things are kosher why rcommunally divisve politics be so looked down upon. That's where honest tireless development politicians fall short.. An honest guy in an over-all dishonest system is misfit if still Modi can win hats off to him..

An honest guy in an over-all dishonest system is misfit if still Modi can win hats off to him.. It is not the case of kosher or not kosher. It is the case of getting real. Put it this way. What happens before the election day in India? Pick up a newspaper(doesnt matter if its Patna or Chandigarh). Most likely you will read an article why XYZ shall win the local election because 10% forwards, 25% backward, 15% minorities, 35% SC/STs etc. That is the problem with India in general and I am sure you have seen it yourself. I remember during the time of Lalloo how my friends from "bakcward" caste would look me in the eyes and claim they shall vote for Lalloo cause he was good for their cause, bad cause for Bihar who cares?? Yes it is wrong, and yes everyone does it. xxx
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 MODi's whole campaign is caste-free that's what congressi detest most about him.. They wud like to go back to their KHAM equation in gujaraat..
kumble_rocks Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 MODi's whole campaign is caste-free that's what congressi detest most about him.. They wud like to go back to their KHAM equation in gujaraat.. Modi campaign may be caste free , but certainly not religion free considering the fact that he is hated by most muslims. BTW, the Sangh parivar themselves used him to garner their vote base among other backward castes because of the fact that he belongs to the so called backward caste. So in essence , the sangh parivar benefited from this indirect caste based politics. But can't blame them for that. Got to admit that Mr. Advani with the help of his Hindutva cohorts like Govindacharya pulled off a coup of some sort by elevating OBC leaders like Mr. Kalyan Singh Uma Bharti , Modi etc. They worked out mediating language of social engineering for advancing Hindutva and increased their vote base among hindus of all caste . So , it's foolish to blame the congress alone. Like they say , it takes two to tango ... politics is ugly ...
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Even religion issue has been forced by psec media he had been talking all along development and yes even now not even a single word against any community..
