My views on Bengal's new ball bowlers.

Ranadeb Bose : He looks like a cross between Pathan and Dhoni.... THe build of Pathan and hair like Dhoni and ends up looking like Phoolan Devi.... HE bowls around 125-128 kph and some decent swing, decent control. But nothing to deserve a place in the indian team... This pretty much explains the quality of the batting, this year, cos the tracks were more bowler-friendly this year in Ranji.... Dinda : Now I am impressed by this guy. He doesnt have much of a record. But in the first 30 overs, he troubled Sachin the most... He is so much like Chetan Sharma bowling with a Balaji action. He is small built and thin, but runs in and bowls like a bull-dog.... Bends his back every ball... delivers wide of the crease and angling into the batsman... THe ones that hold their lines are jaffas ala Ntini... He clocked upto 138 kph and was usually hovering around 132kph, but with a lot of efort... I liked his attitude... If he had some decent batting, which I dont think he does, he can be a candidate for odis.... But nothing else to pick him.... It is weird that he is not picking up more wickets than Bose.... Saurav Sarkar: A waste of a spot... A useless trundler bowling at 115-120 kph with lollipop swing.... He averages 5 wickets per match with an average of 20.. and this is only his 5th match... 22 yrs old and specialist bowler bowling lollies gets me into an ugly temper.... I dont know who guides these youngsters.... but there has never been a 115 kph strike bowler in the entire history of the game.... Dada at 32 yrs old prolly bowls faster than him who is only 22 yrs old.... these guys get into the team, make about 75000 bucks per match.... make a nice career of 10 yrs trundling away and retire happily in their middle age.... No wonder, Vengsarkar is crying hoarse that he doesnt see any talent.... we are going the english county cricket way trundle, get 3-4 wickets per test, get paid, have some beer and go home.... disappointed with the bowling of Ranji trophy finalists...

That was running through my mind as well when I saw him bowl. He looks like a small built trying to put effort in his deliveries. On one hand it is great on the other hand sadly this is the best we are going to get. I mean it would need a miracle to see someone who puts his best effort to come in mid 130's to suddenly start going in high 140's. Plus of course with Indian bowlers it works other way around. Quite possible he may come down to 120's. I was quite surprised at Ranadeb Bose. He seems to be a pace bowler but has Shoaib Akhtar's tummy. I have not seen him earlier so this is based on what I saw. What I could not fathom is how come these players, atleast the Ranji players, are not aware of simple fundamental of keeping themselves fit? Somehow most Indian players, state or National, do not care about fitness(holds true for Indians in general by the way). One can not even make an excuse that they do not have resources. Kapil Dev was trained for a while to do only long distance running by Desh Prem Azaad before he was allowed to bowl and even later on he, and Randhir Singh(former fast bowler and Yuvraj's dad), would run for miles to gather stamina for matches. No wonder Kapil never broke down. Was surprised to see Ranadeb hurl in and throw deliveries at 120's. Sure they were good length and swinging but come on what International team will be susceptible to that? I agree Vengy had every reason to be dismayed. I mean if this is the best we have(considering its National finals) its not saying much at all. xxxx

75000 bucks per match.... ...
WTF ???!??!:eek::eek: There is no fluffin' way Ranji cricketers can make that kind of money.
i think, it is more like 40k for a 5 day match.... out of which 20k will go to ur retirement fund....

i think' date=' it is more like 40k for a 5 day match.... out of which 20k will go to ur retirement fund....[/quote'] Really, has it been raised recently ? As far as i was aware, it was still 20 k per 5 day match, which when adjusted for the retirement fund - is a pittance.
http://www.rediff.com/cricket/2004/may/10ashu.htm A domestic player, who did not wish to be named, said he had heard about the reports, but is yet to be informed about the raise by the Board. "Last year we were getting around Rs 10,000 for each match in the league. For the semi-final and final the amount went up to Rs 15,000," he said. BCCI Joint Secretary Ratnakar Shetty confirmed that domestic cricketers would indeed get a raise, but said it would not be as much as reports suggest. Shetty said players will now get Rs 4,000 per day for Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy games as against the Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000 they were getting in the league and knock-out stages respectively, in the coming season. Instead of Rs 15,000 in the knock-out stages, he said they would now get Rs 20,000, and not as reported. "So, for a four-day game, they get Rs 16,000; for a five-day match, they get Rs 20,000 and for a one-day match they get Rs 4,000. An equal amount is added to their benevolent fund," he said. "The amount that the cricketers receive each day remains the same. There is no increase for the knock-out stages of the domestic competition," he added, reiterating that the reports about a windfall for domestic cricketers are "false." .

Re: My views on Bengal's new ball bowlers. Read an interview with Powar in Cricinfo long time back. You dont play all year round. you have to work at a job as well to pay for ur kids education etc. You dont get time to spend in the gym everyday. 20K a match in mumbai is not a big deal if you have to live a decent life.

Re: My views on Bengal's new ball bowlers. coming back to OP... Bose equals Utpal chaterjee's record for max wickets in ranji... 52 in 8 matches.... and he still has one more innings to bowl.... impressive stats indeed... indian batters outside off stump are crap... this pitch has decent carry, and good swing conditions too.... but so many of em are fishing outside the offstump and caught behind...

Most right handed batsmen are "crap" outside off-stump. It's the kind of line which they hate to play against. How else could a one-trick pony like McGrath take 500 wickets ? Most Indian bowlers are sh*t at bowling outside off-stump.

Re: My views on Bengal's new ball bowlers.

:hail: Ranadeb Bose has bowled 10708 balls in first-class and club games without over-stepping even once. :hail: Relentless and accurate lollipop bowler. the bugger has bowled nearly 30 overs an innings.
I'd take this guy over VRV Singh any day.
u dont exactly have gilchrists and pietersons in domestic cricket to show him that how tasty his 120kph lollies are....
