We end the old year and begin the new with this letter from a reader. It is a simple, sincerely-worded letter of a good man, wishing for peace, harmony and goodwill in our part of the world. Dear..., I am a resident of Dubai and have been living here for 12 years. It is so strange and ironical that in India as well as in Pakistan, kids are nurtured with a sense of hatred towards each other. Here in Dubai, Indians and Pakistanis live together, eat together, travel together and continue their journey of life together, sharing their joys and suffering. When a tragedy takes place in Pakistan, the Indian folks are always around to show their concern for the safety of the Pakistani families back home. Similarly, the Pakistanis are always around for the Indians. Indians and Pakistanis watch cricket matches together, each cheering the other country’s team, and finally enjoying a good game. When India won the 20/20, Pakistanis called the Indians to congratulate them. Indians and Pakistani kids study in the same school, they develop a sense of friendliness and warmth towards each other. Why can’t we share the same feeling back in our countries? - Evon Luicien

so, dhimmi media exploiting each and every damn occasion, for carrying some psy-ops news. Anyone can guess, where their loyalties are lying. anyway, reading this letter to TOI, makes it clear that this guy, firstly is neither an Indian nor a Pakistani, so obviously has laymans understanding about laborers in Gulf and hence all goody-good and high-morale charged talk. Firstly, the so called harmony among Indian, Pakis, Bangalistanis and Nepali citizens is manily due to discrimiinatory and racist nature of LOCAL Arabs. Local Arabs treat Indian subcontinent labors very badly...mind you Gulf has large no. of expats working as labors in construction and various other jobs including domestic servants...majority from Indian state of Kerala. Alienation by local Arabs and a highly descriminator labor law -- you CANNOT change your job, you cannot return your home country unless your employer permits -- Gulf countries still practice the barbaric system of detaining the passport of labors with their company employers and companies--mostly sponsored by Local Arabs often don't allow labors before 2-3 years to visit their families backhome. Their is NO minimum wage rule practiced by local companies-- many labors in contruction and small local hotels, cleaning companies (mostly Bengalistanis), receive a pathetic -- 300-400 Dirhams/Riyals (approx 4000 Rs.) as monthly salary....They can't return home since they have paid money to agent in the tune of 1-2 Lakhs for getting Visa...Most of their earning is consumed in repaying Visa debt money. Such a pathetic labor condition has brought this so called "harmony" so that these expats can survive. ....I am yet to see a Paki cheering for India or Indian Cricket Team in Gulf....last time during Doha Asian Games -- Sania Mirza match, I was travelling in Gulf and managed to see the match -- there was a group of Pakis, shouting very offensive slogans about another Indian player -- Shikha Oberoi...our group got so p!ssed that we started singing Vande Matarm :hysterical:
