observer1
gilchrist (and mcgrath ) are masters at this. mcgrath never used to appeal stupidly (blatant edges, blatant pitched outside leg etc) - these are appeals that a lot of our bowlers make unnecessarily. they will also look at the umpire and appeal even for simple catches - like the icc rule book states; and not run and celebrate without waiting for a decision the umpires then assume that the likes of mcgrath and gilchrist are reasonable folks. and then, when the going is tight, they will let out a loud appeal and celebrate for a dodgy appeal and the umpire will invariably support them. observer1
exactly and Gilly is even more shrewd .... he has built up this reputation of being a walker .... clever guy knows that such a thing is going to happen only once in a bluemoon and the percentages work in his favour. THere was a New Zealander about two years ago - must have been Craig McMillan - who pointed this out. He was completely annoyed at Gilly's strategic appealing and mentioned it in a public interview Link to comment

ludhianvi
yes, Gilchrist jumps like a kid when appealing. That's really not on. I mean on one hand, this guy tries to show that he is playing in the right spirit by walking but on the other hand he is blatantly doing this. Link to comment
