Quality Opener - A rare breed.

It is very difficult nowadays to find quality openers... Especially, strange since the quality of bowling has really dipped in the last 6 yrs....Gone are the days of Greenidges, Gavaskars, MArsh, Boon, Anwars, Goochs... But Alistair Cook is here to stay. A classical opener, who warms the heart of any real test-match fan... Only 21 yrs of age, and has a century against India in its own backyard, then century against pak in england and now almost another against Aussies in their own backyard.... he has the no-frills approach and most importantly for an opener, he gives the rest of the team, the assurance.... it is very important cos if an openeer is struggling or getting beaten too often, it sets devils racing in the minds of the batsmen sitting in the dressing room...

Re: Quality Opener - A rare breed. Yes he shouts assured presence along with strauss..... Ashes wud have been much more interesting had Strauss would not been on receiving end of umpiring blunders so often. England have bright future.. Next ashes they are going to get the urn back again. BELL, STRAUSS, Cook, Pitersen, Flintoff, Vaughn, Read reads a very strong future line-up

Re: Quality Opener - A rare breed. England these days are churning a lot of good players. Cook is in Stephen Fleming mould, technically correct and plays the pull shots pretty well. I think he is here to stay. England has a pretty good batting order, only if they get a bit more consistent and get couple other bowlers in the line up.
