The Outsider
There were multiple threads and posters asking for his ouster during the England ODI series and none during the Twenty-20 WC. Has Robin Singh suddenly become a great fielding coach? What has changed? Nothing but the team composition. Half our side is no longer full of hopeless fielders and the improvement in fielding is perceptible. There is only so much a coach can do at this level. He cannot make Ganguly follow the basics of fielding over night or ever. We have to trim down the fat in ODIs is we are to become competitive in that format. Link to comment
apocalypse
Some of us will not like the reason but these youngsters are more committed to fielding than some senior members. I know we play a lot of ODIs in a year and it takes its toll on the senior members of the team. Link to comment

The Outsider
Karthik has not reverse-aged suddenly he remains the same karthik who used to suck.. go figure There was nothing wrong with Karthik's ground fielding. He dropped a dolly or two but also took some pretty good catches. Link to comment
yoda
concern during the ENG ODI series was that EVERYONE was dropping catches, failing to stop even the wasy ones. it was borderline comical and the hence the question about Robin Singh and whether he deserved to continue. Link to comment

With geriatrics in the team, it's not fair to expect a decent performance from the unit. Link to comment
Chandan
Well Shwetabh, The fielding of Indians when they were defending 218 against England just day before wasn't great either. There were at least 3-4 catches dropped and many misfields. So why does the mood of this lot of youngsters fluctuate so much?? Link to comment

I would put that down to complacency associated with defending such a big score. But there is little doubt that the over all fielding has been on a different plane than what we saw in England. novpj
Yes - he should be dropped. In a typical ICF fashion you are on a high when we win and are willing to writeoff all the evidence we have from the past. Lets wait for 2 more losses and may be we should pose the same question to you. Also my opinion that Robin should be dropped is more from the perspective of giving more control to the new coach and not saddling him with Prasad and Robin. Should prasad be dropped for the indiscipline in bowling? Link to comment

Chandan, That atleast you can attribute to a bad day at office, but what Indian seniors typically displayed in England was a bad, actually horrendous, season really. At the end of the day it just doesnt matter who the fielding coach is if you have the likes of Munaf, Ganguly, VVS, Kumble etc in the team. Heck watching them field make Dravid and SRT look great while in actuality they are only safe fielders. Yep Shwetabh is correct here, fresh legs and lack of fear for getting hurt is what impacts Indian team's fielding. xxx Link to comment

But would you please explain what happened after that and why was that theory abandoned if it was so utter necessary for cricket in this country?? What happened when the moment the young and so called fresh pair of legs met a good team and a good attack?? Why did they go Sooooooooooooooo off boil that they had to be dropped from the team??? It is all extremely easy to go gaga over success in any form, but one should think of sustaining that success in all formats. Each format can need different formula of success and we'll have to be alive to get it to work. To think that T20 success will immediately transfer into ODI success with the same personnel will be as stupid if we think that ODI success will be trasferred into test success!! I'm all for resting the seniors (and we have just 3 so called seniors playing in ODIs) in the one day format for more than 50% of the matches and see how the juniors perform in their absence. But these young guns will have to prove themselves away from home too, not just in India. Link to comment
