With the stage 1 of Archery World Cup being held in Shanghai, I want us all here in ICF to cheer Jayanta Talukdar and Deepika Kumari in their quest for Gold in the Recurve Mixed team event Finals on 19th of May. Hope India gets one Gold. Deepika Kumari is also slated to contest for the Gold medal in the Individual Women's Recurve Gold Medal Game on the same day. for atleast one gold for the Indians in Shanghai. You can track all the results here: http://www.archeryworldcup.org/ :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: P.S: India has only once won a Gold Medal in Archery World Cup, an event which started since 2006 in the form of Dola Banerjee who won the Individual Women's Recurve Gold in 2007.

^ See the interest we people have in other sports. Just one post ... shows why Indians just like cricket. I mean people will follow EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Formula 1 ... but when it comes to following other sports esp. the World Cup, no one is interested even to the extent of saying all the best to the contingent. I bet none of us know much about whats happening in the world of sports for India ... Indian womens team recently won the Inagural 3x3 Asian Basketball Championships. But, not even a single of the leading newspapers gave a small column to it. Shows that even the press is commercial and shows news only for TRP.

In a sad ending to India's Deepika Kumari's brilliant campaign in the Shanghai World Cup Stage 1 event, she lost the Gold medal on the last shot after being on the top throughout the game. Deepika Kumari got one Silver Medal in Women's Recurve Individual Event and won another silver medal in the Mixed team event along with Jayanta Talukdar. All in all a decent Indian outing in Stage 1 of 2013 Archery WC at Shanghai with 2 silver and a Bronze medal. Stage 2 will be played next month and Indian archers will be looking for large scale improvements in all categories.

India women's archery team in World Cup quarters

Kolkata: Deepika Kumari and Laishram Bombayla Devi helped India finish second behind China in the recurve qualification round of the Archery World Cup Stage 3 being held in Medellin, Colombia. According to information received here, Deepika's seventh and Bombayla's eighth finishes were the best among the Indians as the men's team failed short of expectations to finish a lowly 14th in the recurve qualification rounds held on Tuesday. The women's team's second-place finish meant that the Indian women trio, with the third member being Rimil Biruly, will directly play the quarters, taking on the winners of Venezuela and Dominican Republic teams. The women's section was topped by the Olympic team silver medallist Xu Jing (1349 points), while his team-mates Cheng Ming and Fang Yuting finished fourth and sixth pushing Deepika to seventh spot with 1336. Bombayla finished one point behind Deepika, while Rimil Biruly, overall 14th, was third best among the Indians with 1316 points as the trio totalled 3987 to finish a distant second behind China (4036). Seasoned archer Dola Banerjee had a poor qualification round finishing 32nd with 1251 points. Atanu Das (1336) with a fifth place finish was the only brightspot among the men's as the Olympian duo of Jayanta Talukdar (1291) and Tarundeep Rai (1013) misfired. Talukdar finished a lowly 22nd while Asian Games silver medallist Rai was last among the 65 qualifiers. India had an overall 14th place in the qualifications with the trio's total of 3640 points. Atanu and Deepika's combined show meant that the duo finish fourth in the qualification round with a total of 2672 points giving Indians some hope of a medal. All the finals are scheduled for June 20 and 21.

Indian women win recurve Gold at Archery World Cup

Medellin: Indian women's archery team defeated China in the recurve event to claim the gold medal at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Medellin, Columbia on Sunday. :yay::yay: Led by World No. 3 Deepika Kumari, :kiss3: India trounced China 201-186 to claim their second medal of this World Cup and their first World Cup Women's team gold since Shanghai 2011. Deepika had crashed out of the singles competition at the quarter-final stage but she showed her class by hitting four 10s in tricky conditions to allow India to reclaim the Women's Recurve Team gold after a two-year gap. Bombayla Devi Laishram and Rimil Buriuly gave good support to Deepika. China didn't have the best of starts to the final with Cheng Ming failing to register a score and her team mates Xu Jing and Cui Yuanyuan only scoring 6 and 5 with their first arrows. After that, India needed to keep their nerve, and they did just that. Earlier on Saturday, India's men's team clinched bronze :two_thumbs_up: in the compound men's team event to open their account in the competition.
