first, I condemn any hate and mistreatment against Hindu brothers. second this state is a propaganda stat. The minority didn’t decrease in Pakistan, it was never there. Before 1971, East Pakistan had a much larger minority population compared to West Pakistan. Hindus, in particular, formed a significant portion of the population in East Pakistan—about 22-28% in 1951, compared to less than 2% in West Pakistan. third, I am proud that Pakistan has never elected a government with religious motivation like “Hindutva”. We’ve had martial laws do this. But Pakistanis never opted into it or elected it. Pakistanis have always elected PPP, PMLN, or now PTI, all of which focus on economics and by and large talk about friendly relations with India. -

Indian isolation policy is total failure in changing anything about how Pakistani military acts. Its only benefit is for domestic consumption so that BJP can show that “it’s tough on Muslims… oh I meant tough on terrorism” and fuel this hateful agenda and get more votes -

This is BJP propaganda that has created this hate against Muslims that is driving this narrative. Name the “second biggest majority”. Why are you afraid? Say that Muslims are the problem and Hindus don’t want to carry it. Why hide behind labels. The non-secular state of Pakistan has been the reason it marginalized Hindus. So you are going to do that too? Is that example you learned from? Lol All of the world’s richest and most successful countries are secular. It just means that the state itself doesn’t discriminate based on religion. -

I never said that. It was never a secular democracy, but it was a more liberal state until Zia’s “Islamaizatiom” of the country that sent it to the dumpsters. -

I frankly hope so. I admired the secular and democratic India and wished Pakistan was the same. I always wished partition didn’t happen and we all loved together. But today, I consider myself lucky that I am born in Pakistan after seeing what BJP governance is doing to its minority. -

The current Indian government is winning because of Modi’s cult like following and Hindutva narrative that appeals to the majority. Some of the statements I hear from Yogi Adithyanath, Amit Shah, and Modi about Muslims are derogatory and frankly dangerous towards its Muslim minority. Bigger genocides are expected unless things change. Your most credible journalists and entire world’s media is covering what’s really going on in India. BJP has placed stooges in Supreme Court, media and election commission. It’s a namesake democracy now. -

I have no hesitation in admitting that Pakistan is not a secular democracy today—no illusions there. Perhaps this gives me a clearer perspective because I’ve seen similar patterns unfold in Pakistan under Zia’s regime in the 1980s and beyond. Step by step, institutions like the media, the election commission, and the Supreme Court have become increasingly subservient to the will of a messianic figure like Modi—a leader who has openly labeled millions of Muslim citizens as "ghuspetiyas" (infiltrators) and championed laws and policies that marginalize minorities while enforcing a majority-driven narrative. This doesn’t resemble the secular India I grew up admiring. -

There is no doubt India is one of the best teams if not the best team right now. It’s hard for any team to compete let alone a middling Pakistani team. -

Russia and North Korea hold election too. India’s history is impressive but today, India’s not a secular democracy as it used to be. It’s a non-secular dictatorship by Modi under the mask of democracy. The systems have been compromised and it’s obvious to those of us who’ve seen it all before who know the difference. -

Many people in Pakistan were envious of India’s secularism including me. However, India is losing it now. -

The current Indian government is operating like a dictatorship. The way it has made media, election commission, Supreme Court compliant, it’s hardly a democracy anymore. -

Yet, team India has lost 2 of the last 4 t20s against Pak, and barely sneaked through in other 2. as for ODIs, I agree that competition has been lop sided. However nowadays, Pakistan’s doing better in ODIs than T20s, so things might change. -

I am not saying that ICC data is incorrect but I’ve seen other ICC data in the past that contradicts this finding. I don’t think our personal anecdotal observation is required. It’s pretty much a commonly known fact that Pakistan vs India is the most watched game in and in the world, trumped only by some of India’s knock out games. If you looked at 10 last tournaments, that’s the overall conclusion. -

The data you shared is surprising and probably needs more context as it contradicts all the other data readily available. Please explain it to the house full Ahmedabad full house crowd, tickets for which were sold out within an hour, as was the case for the recent Pak-India game in NYC. What you’re saying is totally delusional if you think that the fans treat it as any other game. It definitely has a spike over any other games, although probably not as much as an India knockout game. Here is what the broadcaster said about the game “Sajith Sivanandan - Head, Disney+ Hotstar India said, “We would like to thank all the fans who tuned-in to watch the India-Pakistan match on Disney+ Hotstar. Your love for the game is what made it possible for Disney+ Hotstar to break all the previous records across all cricket formats and hit a peak concurrency number of 3.5 crore viewers.” -

I am not talking about news. I am talking about original agreement. When ICC hosting rights are given, every party needs to sign it and BCCi signed it. That was the appropriate time to show the Indian stance and push back. BCCI should have refused to sign the agreement. It would have avoided all the controversy and drama we are seeing now. If people cannot trust Indian signed agreements, then what are they supposed to do. First you’re breaking agreement, then you’re blaming the other party for believing it lollll -

I am not sure what your point is? Are you saying that Pakistan vs India match is not the most watched game in India and the world? If yes, then that would solidify what I am saying about some unreal delusion nowadays and denial of reality. “According to reports, this epic encounter garnered a staggering 256 million viewing hours in India alone. This translates to a massive audience, solidifying the India-Pakistan match as the most-watched of the entire 2024 World Cup.“ https://www.themediaant.com/blog/most-viewed-icc-t20-worldcup-match/ -

You're partially right, but you're oversimplifying things. Democracy and civilians also have space. It's true that the military holds significant power in Pakistan, but if it were as straightforward as you suggest, Imran Khan wouldn't be in jail, the Bhuttos wouldn't have been assassinated, and the Sharif brothers wouldn't have been exiled before. There's been a continuous struggle between democracy and the military in Pakistan, with highly popular leaders who have won elections through their appeal. A recent example is Imran Khan, who won the election while sitting in jail. Pakistan isn't like the Middle East, lacking democratic roots. It has a vibrant civil society, somewhat open media, and a strong desire for democracy, which continues to fight for space. Today, almost all major political parties in Pakistan (except for some fringe ones) seek peace with India, and people support them at the ballot box. My point wasn't about the size of the minority in India and Pakistan, but rather what the current Indian leaders are focusing on to secure votes. Why does the BJP feel the need to label a minority as "infiltrators"? Whether there is 1 Hindu or 1 million Hindus in Pakistan, the leaders of Pakistan have never referred to them with such a derogatory and disenfranchising term. -

Yes, but if Indian Govt/BCCI never said no until last week, can you blame PCB to have some hope? Why give false hope? it also goes to show some level of deceptiveness on the part of BCCI and Indian government. Why create so much drama? They should have just said there and then that they won’t allow Pakistan to get ICC hosting right as they won’t go. That would have kept things straight. Who’s benefiting from this controversy?
