DUBAI, January 13: Successive losses to Australia notwithstanding, India have moved up to second in the latest ICC Test Championship table announced on Sunday. India are 0-2 down in the ongoing four-match series against Ricky Ponting's side but made the leap after South Africa conceded a match to West Indies in their 2-1 series win on Saturday. India are level on points with third-placed Sri Lanka but are ahead of Mahela Jayawardane's team when the points are calculated beyond the decimal point. South Africa has slipped two places to fourth in the table. The Proteas went into the series against West Indies in second position knowing that they needed to win it at least 2-0 in order to maintain that lead. Having lost the first Test in Port Elizabeth, Graeme Smith's men did well to win the series with victories at Cape Town and Durban. But such is the weighting system when playing teams further down the table that it means that the South Africans lost one ratings point in the latest table. Given how tight it was with just two ratings points separating South Africa in second place and England in fifth, that single point has made a big difference to the table. Australia is still way out in front of the rest on 143 ratings points, some 34 clear of its nearest rival. The ICC Test Championship table: 1. Australia (143) 2.India (109) 3.Sri Lanka (109) 4.South Africa (108) 5.England (107) 6.Pakistan (94) 7.New Zealand (91) 8.West Indies (73) 9.Bangladesh (4). TOI meh... enjoy till it lasts :D:yay::icflove:

India on third position not second: ICC PTI DUBAI, January 13: The International Cricket Council on Sunday issued a correction in Test Championship table, saying the India cricket team occupies the third spot and not the second, as was announced earlier. "A media release was sent out, stating that India had moved up to second place in the LG ICC Test Championship table with Sri Lanka third and South Africa fourth. This is not the case. "After the completion of the South Africa v West Indies series, India moves from fourth spot to third, Sri Lanka rises from third to second," the release said. However, India can go up to second place if they draw the Test series against Australian 2-2, lose it 2-1, 3-1 or even 2-0. If India loses the series 3-0 it will stay in third position and if it loses 4-0 it will fall to fifth place on the table, the new calculations said. The modified ICC Test Championship table: 1. Australia (143), 2.Sri Lanka (109) 3.India (109), 4.South Africa (108), 5.England (107), 6.Pakistan (94), 7.New Zealand (91), 8.West Indies (73), 9.Bangladesh (4).

we may well make it 2-2..or at least win one of the remaining 2, thats not too far fetched... If we make it 2-2...will we lose 2-1 or 3-1...all we get is 2nd place ?? I think that is unfair. I think if we lose 3-1, we shud go to second place, 2-1 should mean joint 1st place with aus and 2-2 means we shud be joint first place ( and Pakistan should be demoted 2 places for this...somehow):D
