Re: India's fixtures in the World cup

PAK - played 3, won 3 (NZ, ENG, SL) lost 3 (AUS, RSA, IND) - 3 big wins. High NRR throughout the tournament; but knocked out by IND in a must-win encounter in their final match of the super 8. Another 20 years of bitching and moaning over umpiring decisions and matchfixing allegations. Mushy launches an enquiry, Mullahs declare a fatwa on India and Woolmer gets stoned at airport, resigns following day. ENG - played 6, won 2 (AUS, RSA) lost 4 (WI, SL, PAK, IND) - fail to start well losing first 4 matches. End tourney on a high note with wins over top teams RSA and AUS, finish as the "moral winners" of the world cup. SL - played 6, won 2 (ENG, NZ) lost 4 (AUS, RSA, WI, PAK) - two wins over ENG and NZ do little to help their cause as they come up short against the rest. Run AUS close but lose after Murali gets hit by beer-can thrown by Darrell Hair (sitting in the crowd). Moody resigns. NZ - played 6, won 1 (RSA) lost 5 (PAK, IND, AUS, SL, WI) - run AUS and IND close, but playing for pride after defeat to SL. Come close to knocking out the hosts in final game of super 8, but lose by 2 wickets in the best match of the World Cup. Fleming sacked, Vettori takes over. Who gives a sh*t about cricket - we'll win the Rugby and Sheepshagging world cups. --- Semis; AUS vs IND - Heartbreak for IND again, as they lose by 398493534 runs to AUS. Chappell sticks middle finger up his @rse. WI vs RSA - RSA knock out the hosts. WI fans riot in the stands, Lara starts crying again (after choking with the bat).
Good summary :hail: although I won't agree with that. A very good laugh indeed :lmao:

Re: India's fixtures in the World cup India and Sri Lanka are drawn in the same group, 'B', in the first league phase at the World Cup. Sixteen teams are spread in four groups and the top two teams move to the second phase -- the Super Eight. Irrespective of the result in the preliminary stage, India will be ranked below the Lankans in the Super Eight because of their inferior ranking in one-day cricket at the time of seeding. But the winners get to carry forward the points earned in the early rounds and this could prove vital in case of ties later.

Re: India's fixtures in the World cup

Will the points carried over to Super 8?
NO. Everybody starts with a clean slate in Super 8
Points over your competitor from your group is carried over to super 8 level. Hence, A1 will have points over A2 before super 8 commences and its the same for every group. BTW, has anyone figured out how matches one needs to win in super 8 to qualify for semis?

Re: India's fixtures in the World cup Rules and regulation of WC 2007: TV umpire gets more power The television umpire can turn down an appeal for caught behind, if replays show there was no contact between bat and ball, under rules and regulations adopted for the upcoming cricket World Cup. Among other interesting regulations for the March 13-April 28 tournament in the West Indies is the provision for moving matches in case of a dangerous pitch, continuing a match even under drizzle in certain situations, bowl-outs to break a tie, and empowering the Match Referee to suggest suspension of play for security concerns ... Teams qualifying for the Super 8 stage will carry forward only the points gained against the second qualifier from their group but will not play against the same opponent again at this stage while taking on the other six entrants. Two points would be awarded for a win, none for a loss and one each for a no result at the preliminary and Super 8 stages of the competition. In case of a tie on points the deadlock would be broken progressively as follows: Premiliminary Group stage: 1. Team with most wins will be placed higher. 2. If tie persists then the team with higher net run rate in group stage will be placed higher. 3. If tie persists, the team with the higher number of wickets taken per balls bowled will be placed higher. 4. If tie persists, the winner of the head to head match played between them will be placed higher. 5. If tie persists, draw of lots will be resorted to. Super 8 stage (to determine semi-finalists): 1. The most wins in all the matches throughout the competition against other Super 8 qualifiers. 2. If tie persists, team (s) with higher net run rate in all matches played against the other Super 8 qualifiers throughout the competition will be placed higher. 3. If tie persists, team (s) with higher number of wickets taken per balls bolwed in all matches throughout the competition against all Super 8 qualifiers will be placed higher. 4. If tie persists, the winner of the head to head match played between them will be placed higher. 5. If tie persists, draw of lots will be resorted to. For the semis, in case of a tied match the Bowl-out will be resorted to and after a no result match teams with the higher NRR in the Super 8 series would proceed to the final and if tie persists, deadlock will be broken by draw of lots. In case the final is tied, there will be a Bowl-out, but if the match ends in no result both teams will be declared as joint champions. -------------------------------------------------------- Interesting rules, especially those about continuing during rain/drizzle!

Re: India's fixtures in the World cup India to play its warm-up matches at Montego Bay, Jamaica KINGSTON ? The Indian cricket team for this month's World Cup arrived here early yesterday morning. The 15-member squad, led by Rahul Dravid, had left Mumbai by a British Airways flight early Wednesday. The team will play two warm-up matches, against the Netherlands and the West Indies, at the Greenfields Stadium in Montego Bay, Jamaica, on March 6 and 9, before the opening ceremony at the same venue on March 11. India, winners of the 1983 World Cup, start their World Cup campaign with a Group B match against Bangladesh at Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on March 17. The other teams in this group are 1996 champions Sri Lanka and first timers Bermuda. In all, 16 nations, divided into four pools, are taking part. The final match will be played April 28 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. -------------------------------------------- At many places the warm ups are going to be shown live as well. Will it be shown in India?
