Rather than talking advantage of it's top dog status , it slept on it's laurels and the result was it get bludgeoned by an upstart company called google. So , Microsoft buying yahoo would be a good marriage for both.

The assistance didn't include a counterbid, but may have included supporting other potential suitors, or a revenue guarantee in exchange for an ad partnership with Yahoo, the people said, according the newspaper.
