Kartikey
New Delhi: CNN IBN has learnt that the UPA government is close to redrawing state boundaries. It is accepting recommedations of the 2nd state reorganisation commission. A reorganisation of states could mean the most populous state in the country is trifurcated into three separate states. So there may be no Uttar Pradesh any longer. Harit Pradesh from Western Uttar Pradesh, the Avadh area around Lucknow making up central Uttar Pradesh and Purvachal out of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Interestingly, UP Chief Minister Mayawati has been all for trifurcation of the state into three parts. “Our government is in support of trifurcation. It will send the legislation to the government,†says Mayawati. Maharashtra too could face a division, with Vidharbha being carved out of the Western State. The Congress and the BJP have tried to play down the idea of a separate Vidarbha state, while the Shiv Sena has consistently opposed the demand. The Darjeeling hill in West Bengal is another possibility, a proposal the ruling Left Front, especially the CPI-M is not expected to take to kindly. Then there is Telengana in Andhra Pradesh, with the Congress looking to woo the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and its head Chandrasekhara Rao. “It is for the government to make any announcement in this regard. But one must also not forget that historically it has been Congress regimes who have created new states for the interest of economic efficiency, local feeling etc,†says The first states reorganisation commission was set up way back in the 1950s. The southern states were created on the linguistic basis. Now the Congress believes that by reorganising the states again. The stranglehold of many regional politicians such as Mayawati could be broken.

Guest Hiten.
how in this world is UP a 'mammoth' state?
sandtest
I don't think it will be that bad. Thing is corruption is unstoppable in our fertile lands of Uttar Pradesh. Add to that law and order, decades of Congress government rule and sickening casteist policies, Mulla-Yam's emergence and endless minority appeasement communalism, Muslim+Yadav+Kurmi+OBC polarization. Finally Mayawati triumphed them all, through Ambedkar movement and Dalit card. UP voters are polarized on caste lines. Mayawati was at least better than haraami Mulla-Yam or Congressi retards, she at at least alloyo Brahmins, Thakurs, Baniyas along with Dalits.....she also spoke about not only Dalits but also Brahmins of UP who are living below poverty line. There are many Brahmin families in UP below poverty line, but can't get any government benefit of reservation for being an upper caste ...castiest reservation is really sickening. If they can carve out more states, more funds will be allocated by central government considering each state government...eventhough local MLAs digest major chunk of money, some spill-over will benefit development of various undeveloped districts. sandtest
The major problems faced by UP is underdeveloped infrstaructure. saddly, rural districts of UP is among those parts of India which are yet to see the daylight of development. It hurts when we see UP is a land which has given India so many leaders. No proper road, rail and electricity....there is a lot of scope for development, industrialization if infrastructure, law and order, land rules are regularized. hopefully with new states they will at least provide "pakki sadak" to connect remote villages. The Outsider
This is a superb move. Smaller states are easier to govern and in a large state like UP, local segments have a much better chance of achieving what they want if they are a separate state rather than part of a huge set up. UP is a mammoth state, around one sixth of the total Indian population lives in UP. Uttaranchal has seen rapid development after it was separated from UP and this help to target development regionally better.
apocalypse
Well there is another reason why these people want to split. Whenever a new state is formed, Govt gives many incentives like in Uttranchal they gave a tax incentive for first 3 years for all the industries. Guest dada_rocks
My personal expereince of big joint family and nuclear family tells that although joint family atmosphere is more fun but it also spawns too many people with parasitic tendencies feeding on others spoils . Inaction inefficienty of individuals can be easily shielded from the public scrutiny in joint family. OTOH nuclear family comes with more accountability. Extrapolating that expereince I am all in favour of truncation of state boundaries and creation of smaller states.
Kartikey
I actually think its a good idea. Maybe, my area, 'Avadh' might receive more investment than now. Lucknow is getting investement but Kanpur has got serious problems.
