I don't think they'll play Gul and Shoaib at the same time. Regardless' date=' I think that Gul can be much better T20 bowler than Shoaib (I havent seen Shoaib in T20's but Gul was amazing in T20 World Cup, and from what I've seen for KKR)[/quote'] i think shoaib and gul will play bcos both the paki batters hafeez and salman butt are not good...they would be better off playing some indian batsman..if u look the bengal ranji players have all played well..so get another of them, replace hafees with shoaib, agarkar with the batsman, switch between dinda and murali... the playing eleven should read ganguly debabrata das brad hodge (wonder when he will come good) hussey laxmi shukla wridhiman saha another batsman (maybe pujara or akash chopra) murali karthik gul ishant akhtar

The players are Ranadeb Bose, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sourasish Lahiri, Yashpal Singh and Hokkaido. One of the players said they were "politely given the option of either staying at the team hotel or going home." "It was clear what the team management wants. Apparently coach John Buchanan feels that he has found his set combination and had no need for the fringe players," one of the players said.

I'm kinda shocked that Bose and Pujara haven't played a game!

Kolkata start pruning operations The Kolkata Knight Riders have released six of their players - Ranadeb Bose, Sourashish Lahiri, Cheteshwar Pujara, Yashpal Singh, Rohan Bannerjee and Nagaland's Hokkaido - as they feel they will not be required for the rest of the season. "To be fair to these players, we are not experimenting with our team combination at this late stage in the tournament and these players won't get a game," Joy Bhattacharya told Mid-Day, a Mumbai-based tabloid. "So it does not make sense for us to hold them back. We have spoken to all the players about it. The players are still with the Knight Riders, but it's just that they won't be needed for the remainder of this season."

Mendis included in Kolkata squad Here's the latest news from the IPL. More... Sri Lankan slow bowler signs three-year deal Mendis joins Kolkata Knight Riders Cricinfo staff May 18, 2008 346182.jpgAjantha Mendis has become the Kolkata Knight Riders' latest buy © AFP The Kolkata Knight Riders have signed Ajantha Mendis, the Sri Lankan slow bowler, on a three-year deal. Mendis, who shot into prominence in the ODI series against West Indies with his unusual action and crafty variations, flew into Kolkata yesterday. The agency which manages Mendis' affairs was certain that their client will be able to deliver the goods. "Kolkata is a place where the pitches are generally slow and receptive to spin and a bowler like Mendis would be able to make the maximum use of the conditions," the spokesman told the Nation, a Colombo-based daily. Mendis, 23, made a sensational debut when he took 3 for 39 against West Indies in Port-of-Spain on April 10. He flummoxed Chris Gayle and Darren Sammy as the Windies batsmen struggled to pick his assortment of deliveries. Mendis, however, failed to take a wicket in his second match, and did not get an opportunity to bowl in the third. Meanwhile, Mendis' compatriot, allrounder Kaushal Weeraratne, has been invited to join Kolkata in training for a week. Weeraratne has scored 97 runs in 13 ODI innings at 16.16, and taken six wickets. He is also the record holder for the fastest fifty in List A cricket, which he completed off only 12 balls while playing for Ragama against Karunegala in Sri Lankan domestic cricket in 2005-06.

Photo / Reuters Black Caps in England New Zealand Cricket is being tempted with a million dollar carrot to release Brendon McCullum to the Indian Twenty20 cricket circus in the middle of the Black Caps' current Test series with England. Under the proposal from the Indian Premier League (IPL), McCullum would return briefly to the sub-continent to play in an IPL semifinal for the Kolkata Knight Riders team, in between the second and third cricket tests against England. Reports suggest the IPL has offered New Zealand Cricket one million US dollars for his services in the semifinals. McCullum made a huge impact with Indian crowds in the IPL series opener earlier this year with a dashing century which featured some awesome ball-striking. Captain Daniel Vettori says he is okay with the proposed move. However, the whole deal is still very much up in the air because McCullum's team actually has to make the semifinals first. Manager Lindsay Crocker says they have not had a direct approach and any decision would have to be made by CEO Justin Vaughan. It is yet to become a genuine issue because there is no guarantee McCullum's side will make the semifinals.

Shoaib's absence due to knee-problem multiplies Knight Riders' woes KKR's campaign to make the semi finals received another jolt as Shoaib is struggling to be fit for the next match. More... Shoaib's absence multiplies Knight Riders' woes Agencies Posted online: Monday , May 19, 2008 at 1511 hrs IST Kolkata, May 19:: With Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar uncertain to play with a knee problem, Kolkata Knight Riders face a do-or-die situation to keep alive their fading semi-final hopes as they meet the in-form Rajasthan Royals in an Indian Premier League match in Kolkata on Tuesday. The Royals, the most inexpensive side in the tournament bought by their franchisee owners for USD 67 millions, have emerged as the surprise package of the meet and are now sitting pretty at the top after sealing a last four slot. Having triumphed in eight of their 10 outings, the Royals have so far collected a whopping 16 points, to leave behind close challengers Punjab Kings XI (14 from 10) and Chennai (14 from 11). Knight Riders now occupy the sixth position, with 10 points from 11 games, and need to win each of their three remaining league matches to make a strong bid for the semi-final cut-off. The Sourav Ganguly-led side has played inconsistently in the tournament and the defeat in the last two games has greatly dimmed their chances. Besides, speedster Shoaib's knee injury also seems to be giving sleepless nights to the team management ahead of the Eden Gardens tie. He came to the tournament under prepared. Here, he has given his 100 per cent. But his knee is a problem now. We will monitor him for the next couple of days to see when he can play, said Knight Riders coach John Buchanan. To a pointed query whether Shoaib is ruled out for the match opposite Rajasthan Royals, Buchanan gave an evasive reply "As I said we will monitor his condition for the next couple of days." If Shoaib is unable to take the field, the Knight Riders pace bowling arsenal would be severely depleted as the other frontline fast bowler Ishant Sharma has also failed to find his bearings after a good show in the first couple of matches. The Knight Riders need to take a hard, closer look on their brittle batting top-order, where save Aussie David Hussey others including Ganguly have been inconsistent. Apart from the astute leadership provided by leg spin legend Shane Warne, the Royals have been served well by their Aussie recruit Shane Watson, who has shone both with the bat and the ball. While Watson is the highest run getter (333 runs at a strike rate of 158.57) for the visitors, South African skipper Graeme Smith (301 runs at 113.15 SR) has also served the team well. Indian players like Yusuf Pathan and Swapnil Asnodkar have also come up with good scores in times of need. In the bowling department, Warne has led from the front. Picking up 14 scalps, while Watson and Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir have bagged 12 and 11 wickets respectively.
