It's not like this was a first for them - cast your mind back to last season's CH Trophy and you will recall that NZ chsed down 332 courtesy of a Styris hundred and a 25 ball 50 from McCullum. In the match before that one; NZ had come within 2 runs of overhauling Australia's 322. In the recent Commonwealth Bank triangular, NZ scored 335 in response to a target of 343 set by AUS in the first innings. That amounts to no less than FOUR 300+ totals they have scored vs the world champs in the last two seasons. There is also one total of 290. That is absolutely unreal - even though their record in terms of wins is quite poor. SO it goes without saying that if a batting lineup like theirs' can come good against the very best, they would have a great chance in the WC as well.
