Which actually brings us to the obvious question. Do batsman, actually need helmets at all ? Whats the mathematical probability of them being struck by a fast bowler, with or without helmets ?

Not high, but it still f*cking hurts. And fast bowlers aren't the threat that often these days, it's the general safety issue that comes from possibly top edging a pull/hook/sweep into your chin or temple. I think I told you that great Muzumdar story earlier - he wouldn't wear helmets in Ranji games for the most part because he didn't want bowlers to think they were faster than they really were. But when Saurashtra's trundlers put it two feet outside off to him, he put a helmet on and then started walking across and paddle sweeping them, with the helmet just to protect him from a top edge of his own.

On that note about batsmen being a bigger risk to themselves than the fast bowlers - it's also worth noting that was the cause of the most high profile injury in the 'Bodyline' Ashes of 32/33. Bert Oldfield went to hook a ball from Larwood that was just outside off stump and edged it into his temple. He collapsed, there was a near riot and hell effectively broke loose.

Not a chance. There have been tri-series tourneys in Australia with far worse feeling between the teams than this. Not sure if you remember Runnertunga's expeditions to Aus, but they were far worse. Especially when you got to Healy pointing to his gut, telling him "take a look at yourself Porky, that's why you're not allowed a runner - it's not cramps, you're just ****ing fat!", and the two then breaking into a slanging match for five minutes that even Mark Taylor couldn't quieten down. :D

Nah... I aint talking merely interms of player exchanges alone. I am talking the whole-hog... Player animosity, international media attention, a looming crises' between two boards. Dont think ANY series played in the recent past matches the previous BG trophy in that.

Tendulkar called for ball tampering (as shocking as it gets), no less than six Indians banned or fined for overappealing, 3rd test made unofficial, etc. Mike Denness "the Menace" was a household name in India at the time

I think we have handled this series very diplomatically beating them at their own game.. We sure have taken sledgin to a new height. by coutering their every move in the court of public opinion.. I mean how stupid can Hayden be to issue such a idiotic statement. Khumble did well in blunting the Bhajji Symonds episode and this time it was Bhajji turn to dish it back to Hayden ..
