Guest Hiten. Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 NEW DELHI: In a major blow to the Olympic torch relay preparations in the National Capital, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has reportedly announced that he will not participate in the event. According to TV reports, the reason behind Sachin's refusal to take part in the relay is still not known but according to sources in the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), the batsmen didn't want to aggravate his groin injury by running in the race and ruin his chances to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting on Friday. Sachin's decision is a big setback for the IOA, which is scheduled to announce the final list of runners on Wednesday. The announcement comes barely a day after Bollywood actor Soha Ali Khan said she would not be a part of the Olympic torch relay in New Delhi this week for "strong personal reasons." Sports fraternity had been demanding that only sportspersons should run the Olympic torch relay. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Tendulkar_not_to_carry_Olympic_torch_Report/articleshow/2955440.cms :two_thumbs_up:

Ram Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 For someone who keeps away from things which show even small semblances of controversy, I was terribly surprised when Sachin agreed to carry the torch in the first place. I suppose this decision was only expected.
umpire Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 He should have carried the torch and should have thrown at Kalamadi's groin.
