Irfan Pathan, the Indian allrounder, will after all travel to the West Indies for the World Cup, Dilip Vengsarkar, the chairman of selectors, confirmed in Ahmedabad today. Under pressure to prove his form and fitness for the World Cup, Pathan conceded 48 off his 8.4 overs and took two late wickets. Vengsarkar reasoned that it was too early to gauge Pathan's fitness on the basis of just one match. Pathan was part of the original 15-member squad but the selectors sprung a surprise when they warned that Pathan's selection wasn't guaranteed if his fitness wasn't upto scratch. "Irfan has not played for the last one month and needs to bowl more" Vengsarkar said. "There is not much time left for the World Cup and Pathan will be bowling in the nets and will also be playing in the warm-up matches before the World Cup begins."

I think they r making a fool outa everyone.. y did they create so much hype on this thing and thereby giving some false hopes to the rejects (powar , rp singh) and needless puttin pressure on pathan.. this is total bullshit on part of vengsarkar.. no matter who becomes the selection chief, he ll be a yet another joker and he ll make the entire nation dumb $#$% damn................. mad

Re: Pathan to go to the World Cup after all That's too much needling...Pathan was already short of confidence...now since he is in the squad,they should leave him alone and let him get into a good frame of mind for the tournament.Vengsarkar is overdoing his role...every other day he comes up with one statement or the other.Now since the team is picked,he should butt out and leave it to the team management.

I don't understand what the big deal is. Didn't we just win against WI & SL without Pathan & in one game despite him? Such a big fuss over nothing really. He is one big lucky guy - it should been VRV or RPS of someone else in his place. He has been totally 'screwed' by guruji into an 'all-rounder' when he was perfectly good as just a bowler. :mad:

Thats the reason Patahan bowls pies cos his batting has been worked on and improved. None of our bowlers should practice batting or even fielding. As their perfectly good bowling will be ruined. Dammn that chappelll for working on our bowlers' batting.

So what is the point of the other seven batters in the team? They should concentrate on batting and its them whom we should expect to make runs and the bowlers to take the wickets.

So what is the point of the other seven batters in the team? They should concentrate on batting and its them whom we should expect to make runs and the bowlers to take the wickets.
Good thing you were not responsible for coaching dev, hadlee and botham. We should also tell sachin, sehwag and dada not to practice bowling as it is not the job they are meant to do. Whats the point of the other bowlers in the team? They should concentarte on bowling. Batters should only focus batting. Dammn that Chappell.

Pathan has to play. He is our trump card as far as an allrounder is concerned.
and he is the other teams trump too, as far as form is concerned
