DesiChap Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 February 28, 2007 Shoaib and Asif: still in the UK awaiting medical check-ups ? Getty Images Pakistan will fly out to the West Indies for the World Cup on Thursday without Shoaib Akhtar or Mohammad Asif, the two fast bowlers currently under a cloud of fitness and doping-related issues. "Both fast bowlers are in England for medical check-ups and they won't be going with the team to the West Indies," team spokesman PJ Mir told AP. Asif is suffering from an elbow injury while Shoaib has a problematic knee. But both have also yet to be dope-tested by the PCB, a test the board says they have to clear before they can join the squad in the Caribbean. Speculation has been rampant over the nature of their trips to the UK, the increasing belief among many now that they are there to try and resolve issues stemming from their positive dope tests last October. The PCB has denied this. "Asif is expected to return home Thursday and Akhtar will be back in Pakistan on Friday," Mir added. Once they have returned, an assessment will be made of their medical reports and a decision finally made as to whether or not they are fit enough to go. Only then will they undergo the dope tests the remaining 18 players (including five reserves) underwent and cleared last week. "If Akhtar and Asif are declared medically fit then they have to go through PCB's process of dope testing," Mir said. All of which means that Pakistan, unbelievably, are still not sure of the final make-up of their squad and playing XI for the opening game of the tournament, against West Indies in Jamaica on March 13. If neither do go they will join Abdul Razzaq, ruled out of the World Cup due to a knee injury only yesterday, as high-profile absentees from the tournament for Pakistan.

Anakin Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Re: Pakistan to fly without Asif and Shoaib Who have eggs on their faces over one test victory in SAF with the druggie duo? As I said then, they needed two druggies to win a match there, one wasn't enough.
apocalypse Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Re: Pakistan to fly without Asif and Shoaib ispar to movie banani chahiye :hic:
MundaPakistani Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Re: Pakistan to fly without Asif and Shoaib Please khatam karoo ais tamashay koo. PCB's dishonesty and incompetence is dragging our flag on the mud, don't care if we lose badly all i ask for is that you put forth an HONEST competition!
indfan Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Re: Pakistan to fly without Asif and Shoaib C'mon guys.. Give them time to flush out the drugs from their system.
apocalypse Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Re: Pakistan to fly without Asif and Shoaib par yeh saheb to kuch aur hi keh rahe hai "As the Pakistan team is leaving for the West Indies via London, Shoaib and Asif can join us from there," Inzamam said. Link
Birbal3 Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Re: Pakistan to fly without Asif and Shoaib The real SWORD over their necks is that if they test positive a 2nd time there is a possibility that they would face a LIFE BAN... Akthar ke liye that is not anything much...he can join Bollywood... afterall they are accepting the likes of Jade Goody... why not a strapping middle aged roid monster... But for Asif...it could mean early exit from dreams of being the next McGrath...
Bumper Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Re: Pakistan to fly without Asif and Shoaib Birbal PCB will NEVER stage them risking a life ban. If the druggies come to the world cup, they'd have passed PCB's drug test by a good margin.
Zooter Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Re: Pakistan to fly without Asif and Shoaib The real SWORD over their necks is that if they test positive a 2nd time there is a possibility that they would face a LIFE BAN... Akthar ke liye that is not anything much...he can join Bollywood... afterall they are accepting the likes of Jade Goody... why not a strapping middle aged roid monster... But for Asif...it could mean early exit from dreams of being the next McGrath... Actually Gaurang, They might get off even if they test positive again. The limit for having nandrolone in your body is 2 ng/mL. I read the court transcript from their first hearing (its on cricinfo somewhere) which stated that Shoaib had around 19 ng/mL with similar figures for Asif. If that amount decreased, but is still above 2 ng/mL then we'll know that they did not knowlingly or unknowingly take banned substances since last September. A life ban from cricket can only be instituted if on a second test, they show higher than expected amounts (should be ZERO) from the previous tests. I think these mofo's are gonna get away with it and Pak. will be a dangerous team -- like a damn Phoenix from the ashes.
Zooter Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Re: Pakistan to fly without Asif and Shoaib Oh and also, The PCB withdrew the original allegation of doping upon accepting Shoaib and Asif's defense that they did not knowingly take any banned substance. Therefore, despite all the hooplah, there is NOT EVEN A FIRST OFFENCE on paper for these two. These guys are as clean as anyone (on paper). So, there can't be a second offense if there was no first. You can bet y'er bippy that as long as these two are physically fit, they'll be joining their mates in the Caribbean and this entire drama that we've all been following will dissolve within the blink of an eye.
