It takes years for BD batsman to develop. Check Litton Das's early part of his career. He was garbage for a long time. They had no choice but to stick with him. He eventually came around.  

 

Yes India had them on the ropes twice 136/9 and 69/6 both times second tier bowling could not land the blow.

If you look at Tamim and Mushfiqur, they were equally garbage for a good amount of couple of years. India needs to learn from this. Take a couple of core talented players and give them couple of years of run. Not just 5-10 matches. This rotation system they are coming out with is not going to help the team in the long run
