tbh donot know why ppl rate sharuk khan so highly in t20s, he got 2 50s in IPL one of which was this season and his team lost that game too. he looks like big hitter but he is not but can be good in odis as lower order batter. nt sure why they are not giving him chances in odis. he can pick and chose which ball to hit and seems to a batter's mind-set.

 

Samad is v.limited can only hit if its halfvolly or short pitch at not so high pace.

 

Raman is good choice, he has some all around game can access off-side too v.fast bat speed (not sure of his intnl. capabilities), could be the best fielder in Ind rt. now and may give 1-2 overs in helping conditions.

 

Patidar and Nair have no reason to complain. They were given great opportunities. Patidar played at home against a poor Eng team and struggled against someone like Shoaib Bashir. He was defending half volleys and was a strokeless wonder. It was clear intl stage was too big for him. Nair was given even a better opportunity and played at 3 across 5 Tests on flattest pitches you'll ever see. He averaged 22 where our lower order batters like Jadeja and Sundar averaged 50+. He's not cut out to be an intl batter.

 

Tripathi is the only one I sympathize with. He played well in a few opportunities he got. It's just that he's in 30s now and has regressed but a few years ago he should've been given chances. But now it's too late for him given the youngsters and batting talent we have.

 

Shahrukh and Samad are rated highly in T20s as they are one of the very few players alongside Ashutosh who can hit from ball one. Nearly every other batter needs a few balls to get in but these three can tee off from ball one and also have the power to hit 6s effortlessly. These're not easy skills to find and not many players have that. That's why Badoni won't make it to the next level. He can neither go off from ball one and neither does he have the power game to clear the ropes. There're way too many options for Badoni to be given a chance. Likes of Parag and Ashutosh are waiting in the wings who check lot more boxes than Badoni. Ramandeep can be given a chance if he improves his bowling. His bowling has regressed and if he can bowl at the same level as Dube, he can be a great fit at 7 and bowl 2-3 overs.

Not trying to make a case for badhoni for Ind cap, do not think he is intnl quality. Also not comparing badhoni to shahruk/samad.

 

Plus badhoni is not that tall to be mo/lower mo batter in t20. Same reason I think rinku is bad bet in finisher's role in t20is, hopefully it goes well for him.

 

A finisher needs power game there are no 2 ways around it, should be able to access various part of the ground.

 

Yes finsher's role is most difficult in today's t20 but shahruk and samad are not that kind of players. Samad has limited and range and shots.

 

Shahruk on other hand may look like a hitter but he is a pure batter his IPL career sr is 150, he is a mo batter who is being used or seen as finisher in IPL.

 

Samad is also around 150 sr he hits sixes when its half-volley or short at not so high pace. They are not bad for IPL level bt no team is thinking that they can pull any special innings through or will give 20 more runs to the eventual score.

 

But as mentioned shahruk looks like a batter and can be given a chance In odis, odi hitting is v.different batter can pick and chose which bowler or which overs to attack.

 

here are few example of batters with high sr in odis but not exceptional in t20is :

There are many others too , these are t20i good sr but not exceptional if their odi sr are seen as refreneces and most will think they will have extra-oridianry sr .

Have been posting about this factor when names of few players with good odi/test sr keeps popping for t20i sides .

 

In t20 bowler is mostly bowling defensively, their job is to not give runs. bt in Odis bowler is not looking to stop/not to give run each ball then batters can pick and chose which bowler to hit and when. there is no such luxury in t20is. Getting off-strike is a good thing in Odi getting a single is good, but making that move early in the over(in t30) unless there is a batting partner who has better match-up vs that /that kind of bowler is bad move.
