As part of Operation Hard Ball, jailed Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has been indicted by a U.S. federal grand jury.

The indictments, unsealed on July 7, 2026, allege that:

Bishnoi and his alleged deputy Satinderjeet Singh (Goldy Brar) ordered the June 2023 assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey.

Prosecutors allege Bishnoi directed the operation from prison in India using smuggled cellphones, providing Nijjar's photograph and addresses to co-conspirators.

The U.S. indictment does not allege that the Indian government was involved in the killing. It focuses on Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, and other alleged members of the criminal organization.

Operation Hard Ball is a multinational investigation involving authorities in the United States, Canada, and Europe. According to the U.S. Department of Justice:

37 defendants have been charged across three federal indictments.

24 people have been arrested or were already in custody.

The investigation targets alleged racketeering, extortion, drug trafficking, targeted killings, and other transnational organized crime.
