Sehwag Stats - A case of Contrast

GB played a total of 193 innings and made a grand total of 3 scores over 150 Sehwag on the other hand has made 10 scores of 150 and over in HALF AS many chances .... Hit and miss you say ? :D The thing is a sight of a Sehwag always sends down shivers of Bowlers .... which more than makes up for the lack of footwork ... With Boycott there is no such thing .... if he made a hundred it usually helps the oppositions chances of drawing the game ....
Sehwag would be left in tatters if he faced what Boycott used to face from West indies. No bouncer rule, slow overrates, no beamer rule like now. Pitches were bit more bowler friendly too (I don't buy in to those stories about these green colored pitches). Boycott was good against what he played, and it demanded that particular style of playing. Sehwag would have been a massive failure against them. But the current necessity is to play the game what Sehwag, Dilshan, Gayle and Watson are playing, attacking opening batting. Boycott in this era would have just killed the momentum off.

Premier bowlers faced by Sehwag such as Steyn' date='McGrath,Shoaib,Asif, Bond, Gillespie,Warne,MM, Swann, Malinga, Flintoff, etc are just as good as the premier bowlers from Boycott's time such as Marshall,Holding ,Garner, Hadlee,Lillee,Thommo,Bedi,Chandra etc.[/quote'] Plus those days the standard of Fielding was not Half as good as what it is this days to add to that The mindset of Captain and Bowlers those days were much different from what it is now. They used to know only one way to get a batsman out and that is to attack, But we have seen captains and bowlers got out many times this days with fielders placed on boundary or by defensive field settings, so I think they'll add up to Sehwags advantage unlike this days. And to manage bouncers sehwag can Upper Cut you for 6 for the whole day effortlessly.

Thats just stunning. There's no point trying to find a cricketing equivalent of this accomplishment because there is simply none. Maybe we have to look at other sports to find parallels. But for somebody to be an Opener AND average 55 AND have a SR of 82... That is quite simply beyond belief. It is little surprise that Indian test match history can be, for all practical purposes, divided into two eras - The Pre Sehwag era and the post Sehwag Era. Taking 1970 as a generic reference year in Indian cricket, between that time and the day Viru made his debut, we played 228 tests, won just 52 of them ( A mediocre win percentage of just 22%) and lost an embarrassing 67. Since Viru made his debut, we have played in 101 tests, our win percentage has nearly doubled to 40% and our losing percentage has nearly fell by a third. Viru..! :hail:

Viru has a chance to permannently shut the critics (a few who still have silly doubt about his greatness) with good showing in SA, WI and Eng in the next 9-10 months. In fact SA is one place where he whould love the bounce on the wickets. Can freely play his shots.
This is the constant refrain that is thrown around – ‘If only player X can perform in country Y against the bowler Z, then he will silence his detractors once and for all..’ That is an entirely misguided statement. Sehwag doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone anymore. He’s already a one of the all-time greats and will remain as one even if he retires tomorrow or scores only ducks between now and the end of his career. The so called critics will keep criticizing, no matter what. What Sehwag has already accomplished is enough to guarantee him a spot in the annals of cricketing greatness. He does not need a stamp of approval from anyone, nor does he require ISI approved performances in certain countries to seal his legacy.

Well said. But a few big scores in these series will shut the doubting thomasses forever. I am sure we will see those big scores starting with the SA tour.

Facing such a lot needs a different technique to facing current set of bowlers. Now I have touched a nerve of many Sehwag fanboys by mentioning the WI attack of 80s. :--D

You are actually one of the most sane people. If Sehwag does well in SAF, there is nothing to prevent from being identified as a ATG.
