Ishant Sharma appreciation thread!

The guy is class. What a find. 19 yrs old, tall, quick, accuarte and heart of a lion. Bowling brilliantly today. Pitch map is fantastic just like that spell against Ponting. Just back of a length on the money. Mcgrath like. Ishant Sharma is SUPERB:two_thumbs_up:

Ian Bishop is saying that the nature of the pitch hasn't changed at all from a fast bowling point of view since when Srilanka was bowling. He credits to entirely to Ishant and Zaheer. Brilliant bowling this.

Bishop purring over Ishant and rightly so. Great sight to see a tall fast bowler steaming in and putting the ball in right areas ball after ball generating lift. Even greater pleasure as finally a bowler like this is wearing an Indian shirt!:two_thumbs_up:

The only thing lacking with Sharma is experience. It took him one test match to get into sync but he seems to have worked out the bowling length and lines on the sri lankan pitches. Khan also improving is a bonus. I imagine they,ve put in a lot of hard work the last few days.

The kind of bounce he extracted is nostalgic to watch. He need to maintain his fitness like this in future...an invaluable asset he is.:two_thumbs_up:

And Bishop was just pointing out that he should not be allowed to burn out too early. Tell that to BCCI.

I think they are aware of that and I doubt he will play all five of the ODIs. Would love him to capture a five wicket haul. It truly is shocking that this absolutely raw bowler from early 2007 is the world beater of today. It is an unprecedented improvement which no one could have predicted would be so quick. He has removed the 'mixed' aspect of his action, got rid of his no ball problem, become more accurate (though there is room for improvement there) and has become much quicker, touching 141.6kph in this innings and showing an ability to bowl 145kph in Australia (though Australian speed guns timed him at 150kph, the Star reading was/is no doubt more consistent with readings elsewhere in the world).

Yes. He must work on his cardio fitness - as he will no doubt be bowled into the ground if he continues to improve at this rate, above and beyond his Indian peers.

nostalgic? what nostalgia does it invoke?

Maybe the 1970s and 1980s when pitches were much more lively and there were Lillee, Thomson, Roberts, Holding, Imran and many others sending the ball past batsmen's noses on a regular basis.

BCCIs track record is not so great in preserving pacers from injury. We have seen Zaheer, RP, Sreesanth all getting "rest" only when they are actually injured. The last time one Dhoni said something about taking rest, a BCCI money collector babu was quick to pounce on him reminding that " If YOU want you can take rest valuntarily". In other words BCCI said in very very clear words in symbolic lingo that-- "STFU Dhoni, BCCI do not have policy, neither it will encourage such policy of resting or rotating players from meaningless ODIs/T20 bravado for the sake of their fitness benefit, The players themselves can take rest (in other words loose financial benefits associated with it during that period). BCCI is money driven empire, and we must thank our good fortune that we are still able to watch a three match test series.

The BCCI have let Dhoni take a rest from a Test series, something which has never happened before - it shows they respect their players' wishes and that the respect is mutual. Remember that Dhoni wished to take Kitply Cup and Asia Cup off, the BCCI refused and Dhoni waited and did not complain. Keep in mind that the BCCI might have not wanted to rest Dhoni themselves because of the dire state of India's other keepers.

There is a meaningless money collecting series like Kit-Kat etc. and there is Test match series. A player wants to choose a series for rest/ recration for his fitness. What you will encourage as a trainer? I will say, take a rest from exhaustive kit-kat cup and play Test series, We all have seen how badly Dhoni was missed in 2 test matches for his behind the wicket skills. I think, Dhoni was clearly discouraged to take a rest from ODI series, instead BCCI didn't mind a Test series absence since for them Test matches consume resources with less return in terms of money, hence not important. Point is, it is not just about individual Dhoni case, there is lack of coherent policy within BCCI to rest/rotate pace bowlers from meaningless ODI/ T20s.

I didn't notice that...which were those pace bowlers rested/rotated?
Not to ignore you, but I have to leave soon so cannot have a long reply. I believe Ishant Sharma was rested near the finals though and the others were rotated based on form.
